A Principal Consultant within Terrestrial Ecology, you will deliver a range of projects for clients including the UK environment / conservation agencies, wider development clients and the water and energy industries and supporting services. The purpose of the role, working closely with senior management, will be to expand the already established ecology team across the North West, Yorkshire and throughout the Midlands.

This is a fully remote role, however, ideally the successful individual will live within commutable distance to Manchester centre, as an office presence and contact time with sub-consultants is desirable.

The aim for this role is to expand the team across the region over the next 3 years', growing the team up to 15 ecologists, ideally each bringing varying areas of expertise, creating an eclectic in-house function with the ability to deliver projects in a timeline fashion, across a wide range of specialism / requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Work with managerial team to facilitate expansion across the North West, Yorkshire & Midlands.
To lead and mentor all sub-consultants, ensuring reports are delivered in a timeline manner.
Reviewing and signing off reports, providing constructive feedback and coaching where required.
Ensure that all output is delivered to the highest standard, to budget and within committed timelines.
Tender preparation; writing proposals, budgeting, programmes and scope both alone, both internally and with external stakeholders / clients.
Project management of a range of projects with potentially multidisciplinary teams based in various locations.
Client management, successfully developing, maintaining and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships.
Attend and present at appropriate business development events including networking events and conferences.
Business development, including maintaining and extending relationships with existing clients as well as securing and managing new work.
Health and Safety responsibilities; make use of the tools, equipment, training and resources; and actively engage with colleagues at all levels to contribute to the continuous improvement of health and safety management.

Role Requirements

Essential:

Knowledge of EU and UK legislation - ecology and environmental issues, as well as Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Ecological Impact Assessments and planning regulations.
Experience of undertaking survey work including leading protected species surveys and mitigation projects.
Experience managing & developing sub-consultants, ideally also familiar doing so with remote-working teams.
Proven experience of expanding and managing a terrestrial ecology portfolio within a consultancy setting and to represent it external stakeholders.
Experience of providing authoritative ecological advice and innovative mitigation solutions/enhancement considerations across a range of sites and schemes with varying levels of environmental and ecological sensitivities.Desirable:

Demonstrable track record wining work, experience of preparing bids and tenders and generating new business opportunities.
Full membership of CIEEM (or to have eligibility if not currently held)
Hold at least one Natural England protected species licence
FISC level 4 or above
