Telent are looking hire a Town Planner (Town and Country Planner) to join the Wireless Telecoms business. As part of this busy and continually growing Wireless Telecoms team, the successful Town Planner will have the opportunity to play a crucial part in some of the UK's most mission critical vendor swap programmes, and work on some new and upcoming projects across the Mobile (MNO) and Wireless space. This Town Planner role will see you travel to a Telent office (either Livingston, Warwick or Chatham offices depending on your location) at least 1-2 days per week, and the rest of the days working from home. Full UK driving license is required.
As a Town Planner you will be responsible for the delivery of Town Planning Services, and play an important role in helping to shape the future direction of the Town Planning team and the services we offer.
You will help Mobile Network Operators, Telecom Tower Companies, Infrastructure Providers, Utility, Media and EV companies to improve their network infrastructure, connectivity, network performance and supply of goods and services by obtaining planning consents or approvals for new sites, the upgrading of existing sites and for supply, transport and infrastructure assets. This will include any site types across the UK, including rooftop, street works and greenfield tower installations, street work sites, small cells, EV charging points and other street assets.
Town Planning - What you'll do:
Provide guidance and support to the Planning Team & wider business on all planning services, full planning applications and other planning work as required and provide clear direction to colleagues and project managers on best practice, policies, processes, and codes.
To support Acquisition & Town Planning staff to ensure that everyone who undertakes Town Planning work has the necessary training and experience and ensure sufficient training and regular updates are provided to the team to keep them updated on legislative and other changes.
Help to deliver on the financial planning targets and the Planning business plan.
Help to manage the workload of the Town Planning team and ensure resources are appropriately aligned with workload.
Oversee planning appeal assessments and submissions.
Liaise with clients to obtain regular feedback on planning advice and services provided.
Help to ensure client milestones/KPIs are measured and met or exceeded.
With senior management support, help to identify and target new planning clients and projects from within Telent and externally and assist with cross sell planning and other property/telecom services.
Report regularly and work closely with the Head of Acquisition, Estates & Planning to help monitor the performance of the Planning business unit and develop the planning service offering.
Maintain and build on existing relationships through regular client meetings/updates.
Help to raise the profile of the planning team, its capabilities and expertise through attendance at targeted networking events, conferences, seminars etc.
Help support the business development objectives.
Ensure that all Planning services delivered by the business are to an appropriate quality adhering to all national and local policies, timelines and to client expectations.Town Planner - Who you are:
The successful Town Planner will already be RITP qualified in Town Planning, although, we will consider anyone with relevant Wireless Telecoms / Mobile Network Operator experience without the qualification. The Town Planner will also have reasonable experience in undertaking higher-level planning work, ie. Planning appeals, feasibility studies and preparing full planning applications. Town Planner - Key requirements:
Must be RITP or RICS qualified (or near completion)
Experience of working as a Town Planner in Wireless Telecoms / Telecommunications industry or Mobile Network Operators (MNO) industry (preferred)
Thorough understanding of local authority and national planning policies, codes and acts around Planning applications
Good IT skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Full UK driving licence holder and flexible to travel if required
Considerable amount of experience of submitting Planning applications and related applications/documentation
Excellent understanding of the appeals process, including experience of submitting written representation appeals
Strong understanding of GPDO throughout the UK, as well as National Policy for Communications
Attention to detail and good report writing skills
Knowledge of Civils in a Telecoms environment
Post-graduate Town Planning / Town Planner experience within either the public or private sector will be consideredTelent - What we offer:
