We are looking for an Assistant Electrical Engineering Manager to work for a Renewable Energy company nationwide.

They have a head office in Manchester but this will involve frequent site visits and call outs so you can be based anywhere.

Job Role

Reporting directly to the Divisional Electrical Engineering Manager, you will give regular information on Electrical Engineering progress, Commissioning protocol, Asset Performance. Electrical Training and Competencies.

You may be seconded to the Projects Department when required to provide technical and project support and assistance during design, construction, and commissioning phases of each development.

You will also work closely with the UK Operations, Projects, HSQE and HR departments in order to achieve the aims set out below and to manage the staff reporting to you.

The management, supervision and execution of electrical installation, modification, rectification works in accordance with the company specifications.

Development and supervision of operations staff with the intention of increasing direct responsibility (where this is cost effective) for all aspects of Electrical, Control, and Dispatch.

Ensure that the Department have adequate resources to carry out their tasks and that engineers engaged are competent and adequately trained

Supervise all necessary installation and, commissioning tests and ensure that records are kept.

Utilisation, compliance and improvement of the company’s operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, record keeping and stock control systems.

Day to day operations and maintenance including (but not limited to) fault diagnosis, service, modification, replacement, and rectification.

Delivery of fully commissioned and tested solar, energy storage and gas peaker projects into the Operations phase (in conjunction with the Project Dept)

Interrogate and decipher programme logic or signal faults, determine then apply suitable amendments to programme and/or software modification to resolve control and sequence shortfall.

Maintain progress on all electrical works to ensure works are carried out.

Develop fault finding manuals for electrical equipment.

Develop, enhance and deliver electrical/technical related training courses

Managing quality control and fault reporting of new plant and equipment

Liaison with other departments on upgrading and improvement specifications

Ensure company quality procedures are fully implemented

Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with current HSQE legislation and the company policies and procedures

Ensure that safe working practices and procedures are implemented and maintained

Ensure that the company’s accounting controls are applied to procurement issues such that transactions are clearly authorised and complete

A commitment to continuous enhancement of skills and knowledge, and that of the engineers working with you

Avoid unnecessary expenditure by using skills and tools available within the company

Managing your time and travel effectively

Key Tasks

Second and deputy for the Electrical Engineering Manager as and when required.

Commissioning and incorporation of new facilities and plant into Operations

Preparation of commissioning and testing strategies and setting of standards in conjunction with the Electrical Engineering Manager

Ensure maintenance of LV/HV electrical equipment

Supervise operation of HV switchgear

Incorporation of new sites into Operations in conjunction with the Projects Department

Preparation of testing and commissioning strategies and setting of standards

Scoping of Electrical Engineering jobs producing recommendations for works to be carried out

Schedule and coordinate all pre planned maintenance, reactive maintenance, faultfinding and testing in conjunction with the Operations Managers

Schedule and coordinate new installations, testing and commissioning in conjunction with the Operations Managers

Prepare develop and deliver Electrical training in conjunction with the Electrical Manager and Training Manager

Provide 24-hour call out support cover to respond to operating matters as per agreed rota

Prioritisation and coordination of your own workload

Provide support, guidance and training to the staff on fault finding, commissioning, rectifying and remediation

Attendance at all relevant meetings

Any reasonable task required by the management in the exercising of its goals

Your department will

Provide flexible and effective support to the Projects Department to ensure development commissioning is progressed to exacting timescale and budget.

To maximise electrical production and reduce operational costs by taking responsibility (where this is economically and tactically beneficial) for the operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment within your control. Key to this will be our ability to operate and maintain our own and clients solar, energy storage equipment, generating sets, and gas processing plant.

To ensure the operation and maintenance of all operational solar, energy storage, generators, plant, and gas systems to achieve maximum, reliable, and safe electrical output.

The aim of the Company is to develop a successful, sustainable, and profitable business based on energy storage, solar and gas utilisation.

The company is looking for safe, clean, and well-run sites, which meet the budgetary and performance targets.

Requirements

Extensive knowledge and experience of Electrical maintenance, Control Systems, Logic and Commissioning

Experience with small scale Power Generation, CHP, Solar and Energy Storage Systems

Proven Experience with Gas Engines (CAT, Perkins, MAN, MWM, Cummins, Scania, etc)

Experience with electric control systems 12v DC – 415v AC 3ø

Fault location, diagnosis, and rectification of systems, PLC and logic

Supervision and Management

Current UK Legislation

Computer literate

Hold full UK drivers licence and passport

Ability to use own initiative

Preferred

Gassafe Accreditation (or ability to complete within probation)

18th Edition and EIT (or ability to complete within probation)

Recognised Senior Electrical Engineering qualification
