Product Developer

Key Responsibilities:
Full Technical Specification Development
- Develop comprehensive technical specifications for the uniform range, covering all aspects including sizing, rating, fabric and trims, embroidery, print, garment labels (including tax tabs), and fitting comments .
- Collaborate closely with Designers, Fabric and Garment Technologists to ensure all garments are fit for purpose and meet quality standards.
Fabric Development & Testing
- Work closely with the Fabric Developer and Fabric Technologists to develop and select fabrics that meet the functional, aesthetic, and sustainability requirements of the collection.
- Ensure all fabrics undergo the necessary testing procedures , including durability, washability, breathability, and compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards .
- Keep up to date with innovative fabric technologies and their application in uniform design.
Sustainable Development Considerations
- Collaborate with the ESG Specialist, Fabric Developer, and Designers to integrate both client and JSD’s ESG goals into the initial stages of development.
Bill of Materials (BOM) & Technical Pack Ownership
- Responsible for accurate completion of all BOMs in the tech pack using information provided by the Designer and Fabric Developer .
Supplier Liaison & Sample Development
- Act as the main point of contact with suppliers , ensuring clear and timely communication on development samples.
- Provide detailed feedback on fit, quality, and commercial viability .
- Manage day-to-day supplier relationships to maintain high standards in product development.
Costing & Sourcing Strategy
- Source materials and products within designated price categories , covering CMT (Cut, Make & Trim) and fully factored pricing models.
- Balance quality, functionality, and cost efficiency to achieve optimal selling prices.
Fit & Sample Review Process
- Organise and attend fit sessions , documenting and updating fit comments.
- Work proactively to ensure smooth development and production processes, adjusting all technical specs as needed.
Critical Path Management & Studio Coordination
- Set clear priorities for pattern cutters, sample machinists, and factories , ensuring development timelines align with the critical path .
- Maintain close collaboration with design, technical, and production teams .
Range Plan & Process Tracking
- Keep all range plans and process trackers updated to ensure deadlines are met.
Factory Visits & Supplier Relations
- Regularly liaise with and visit factories to monitor sampling progress.
- Ensure all development samples meet JSD’s technical and quality standards before approvals.
Internal Material & Sample Readiness
- Ensure all relevant materials ( fabrics, trims, patterns ) are available for first toiles and pre-development samples .
Final Approvals & Sign-Off
- Responsible for obtaining approval of fabrics, trims, raw materials, branding, embroidery, and final development samples from the Sales and Client Services Team .
- Communicate approvals clearly to suppliers to maintain accuracy and timeliness.
Client Meetings & Feedback Integration
- Attend client meetings alongside the Design and Sales Team , ensuring all feedback is captured and communicated internally and externally.
Pre-Production Handover
- Deliver a complete tech pack (including fabric, trims, and component cards) along with the final development samples to the Production and Technical Team before production begins.
Continuous Learning & Industry Awareness
- Stay updated on fabric innovations, fabric testing methods, and garment technology by attending workshops, reviewing industry publications, and participating in training .
General Supply Chain & Business Support
- Perform general tasks and duties related to the role, ensuring smooth operations within the supply chain .
Key Requirements:
- Passion for fabrics and strong understanding of fabric properties, testing, and development .
- Experience working with technical specifications, BOMs, and critical paths .
- Strong communication skills to liaise with design, technical, and production teams, as well as external suppliers .
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict development deadlines .
- Previous experience in uniforms, workwear, or technical apparel is advantageous.
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Highly proficient in MS Office application(s) (Excel) and Adobe Suite.
- Strong digital and technical drawing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication & time management skills
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships both internally and with suppliers.
- Detail-oriented, with fit & basic pattern knowledge.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 Years of experience in a product development role, experience within the uniform business preferable.

Education:
- Degree in fashion/textile.
