Role Overview

This position is an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in education, particularly with students who require additional support. Working within the school’s support and intervention team, you will play a vital role in fostering a positive learning environment and helping students overcome barriers to achievement.

Key Responsibilities
  • One-to-One Support: Work closely with students who require additional assistance, helping them to engage with their learning and manage their emotional well-being.
  • Small Group Interventions: Lead or support group sessions focusing on social skills, emotional resilience, or academic catch-up.
  • Classroom Assistance: Provide in-class support to the teacher, ensuring students remain focused and engaged in their learning.
  • Pastoral Support: Build trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and offering a listening ear for their concerns.
  • Support for Students with SEN: Work with students who have special educational needs, including those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
  • Collaboration with Staff: Assist teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams in developing and implementing individualised support plans.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track student progress, identifying areas for further support and providing feedback to teaching staff and parents/carers.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Psychology Background: A degree in psychology or a related field, with an interest in educational psychology, child development, or SEN.
  • Experience with Young People: Previous experience supporting children or young adults in an educational, care, or mentoring setting is highly desirable.
  • Empathy and Patience: A calm, compassionate approach to supporting students with additional needs.
  • Strong Communication Skills: The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: Comfortable working in dynamic environments and tailoring support to meet individual needs.
  • Passion for Education: A genuine interest in helping young people achieve their potential and overcome challenges.
