Job Description:Job summary
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to work at Buckingham Hospital providing assessment, acute rehabilitation and timely discharge for patients transferred from the acute hospitals.
Main duties of the job
This is a multi-skilled post requiring experience in acute medical discharge planning, neurology, amputees, falls, and other pathologies.
You will work under the Band 7 Therapists, Band 6 Therapists, and Band 3 clinical support workers.
You will work jointly with the patients, physiotherapists, nurses, and community teams both on the ward and sometimes in the client's home to enable the clients to be discharged.
We also work at weekends at Stoke Mandeville or Wycombe Hospital.
This post is part of a very friendly, supportive, and dynamic Therapy department with integrated individual supervision, appraisal, CPD, and in-service training.

Person SpecificationEDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential
- Current registration with Health Professions Council
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Evidence of CPD in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
Desirable
- Specific formal courses appropriate to post specialty
- Membership of professional special interest group
- Field work/clinical educators course
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Experience of a junior rotational Occupational Therapy post in the NHS
- Previous experience of a broad rotational scheme
- Attendance at post-graduate courses in related fields and demonstrates reflective learning
- Knowledge of areas of clinical governance including quality, audit, and risk management
- Experience of managing own caseload and prioritizing
- Ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team and contribute to decision-making
- Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and reflective practice
- Knowledge and application of evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning
Desirable
- Basic splinting skills
- Knowledge of areas of influence of psychosocial and cultural factors on health/illness behaviors
- Experience in supervision of students and junior staff
- Participation in audit, research activities, and development activities
- Experience of undertaking Senior (Band 6) role
- Demonstration of having initiated change of practice or process

- Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to the specialist clinical area of post
- Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/experience and utilize advanced clinical reasoning skills
- Able to carry out a range of assessments and procedures in order to make clinical assessments and diagnosis
- Able to carry out manual therapy techniques and therapeutic handling, requiring skillful and strenuous physical effort during the day
