Medlock Partners are proud to be partnering with a highly reputable distribution business based in Bolton to identify an experienced Purchasing Manager to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a business built on passion, skill, and creativity, that is focused on driving long-term sustainable growth.

This role will report to the Purchasing Director and is crucial for enhancing supplier relationships, conducting research for improvements to the supply chain, and reducing costs.

A proven experience in developing and executing purchasing strategies is required as well as the ability to work with a range of stakeholders across a diverse business.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for the procurement and supply of raw materials and services within the Company.
  2. Setting, planning, organizing, and executing the Purchasing strategy, incorporating best commercial practice.
  3. Lead, manage, and motivate the Purchasing Team whilst at the same time setting and monitoring individual targets.
  4. Manage and oversee the Purchasing Team’s management of suppliers, relationships, and service level agreements.
  5. Work alongside the Finance Team to review and maintain all input costs within the area of responsibility.
  6. Recommend to the Sales Team the introduction of new factored products, presenting high margin opportunities for business growth and development within the retail outlets.
  7. Responsible for negotiating, administrating, and controlling purchasing contracts.
  8. Control supplier payment terms by negotiation and clear management.
  9. Responsible for make or buy policy analysis and presentation of clear recommendations to the Managing Director.
  10. Responsible for cost-saving budgeting and targeting to monitor and prove drop-through.
  11. Responsible for stock and materials management via the ERP System.
Key Requirements of the Purchasing Manager:
  1. Proven experience within a purchasing manager role.
  2. Ability to develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  3. Previous experience of managing a small team, identifying areas for improvement, and conducting necessary 1-2-1 training.
  4. Previous experience of developing and executing purchasing strategies.
  5. A background within engineering production.
  6. A strong team player who communicates well at all levels.
