A Progress Tutor at Hopwood Hall College is a dedicated professional who plays a crucial role in supporting the academic, personal, and professional development of learners. Progress Tutors work closely with groups of study programme and Access learners, providing guidance, mentorship, and personal development to help learners succeed in their studies and transition into higher education or employment.
To be responsible for supporting the progress, achievement, careers and employability advice and progression of a cohort of learners through weekly group tutorials and 1:1 reviews on a termly basis. To provide support through themed topics including employability, personal development, social and welfare, health, and wellbeing.
Interview date: 24th and 25th January 2025 Key Responsibilities
Facilitate the weekly tutorial (PACE) activity planned to groups of learners. To provide cover for PACE sessions when required (due to staff absence). To manage a specific case load of learners and their programmes to ensure successful completion of a learner's study programme. To plan and carry out regular reviews with learners on a 1:1 basis to monitor the progress of the study programme. This will include setting targets to support and include interventions to improve progress and achievement. Progress Tutors will update ProMonitor in conjunction with these 1:1s, which will include the monitoring of other targets set in conjunction with course tutors, English and maths and other College staff. To ensure, learners have the correct information, advice and guidance to progress successfully into employment, further education and/or training. Work closely with the Pastoral and Safeguarding team to pass on any pastoral, welfare and safeguarding concerns. Refer to the Pastoral and Welfare Officer (PWO) for personalised support to help learners navigate personal and social issues that may impact on their learning and well-being. PWOs serve as a trusted advisor and advocate, providing guidance on time management, stress management, and healthy lifestyle choices. They may also refer learners to counselling services or other support networks when necessary. To assist learners in exploring career pathways, setting career goals, and developing employability skills. They provide information about further education options, apprenticeships, and job opportunities, as well as support with CV writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies. Work with the Careers and Employability Officers who will facilitate work placements to help learners gain practical experience in their chosen field. To create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where learners feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed. Build positive relationships with learners, offering a listening ear, empathy, and encouragement during times of stress or uncertainty. Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, celebrating the unique backgrounds and identities of all learners. To track learners' attendance, engagement, and academic performance to identify trends and patterns that may require intervention. Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions and collaborate with colleagues to develop strategies for improving learner retention and achievement. Be the first point of contact for parents & communicate, as required, with staff, parents/guardians and employers/external agencies, within limits of GDPR and record on Promonitor. To plan, set and implement early intervention strategies including the setting of targets which include attendance and behaviour. To contribute to EHCP Review meetings and carry out PEPs (Personal Educational Plans) for Looked after learners. To contribute to the development of cross college tutorial resources and use of the college VLE. To promote learner voice activities to learners to encourage participation and ensuring the election of learner reps. To promote Careers and Employability activities to learners including the support of the UCAS process and sharing of key information regarding application and references. Attend any curriculum-based meetings when required including parents evenings, at- risk meetings, open evenings and interview events. To attend CPD (Continuing Professional Development) sessions to support development, professional knowledge, skills and abilities. Any other duties, of a similar level of responsibility, as may be required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Qualifications Essential Criteria Level 2 (GCSE A* - C) in English and Maths. Level 4 Teaching Qualification (or willingness to work towards) Previous Vocational experience Desirable Criteria Degree qualification
