Paediatric Occupational Therapist
The Service & Team:
The Occupational Therapists sit within the West Disabled Children and Therapy team. This team is made up of social workers, disabled children and family workers, SCIP workers, and portage workers. The team works closely with colleagues across social care, education, and the NHS. The OT team will work with children and young people from birth to 18 with a range of physical and learning disabilities.
The Role:
You will work as part of an OT team that sits within the larger multi-disciplinary team. In the west OT team, there are currently four OTs - two part-time band 7s, a full-time band 6, and a full-time band 5 (this post). You will work collaboratively with children, their families, and other professionals and agencies to assess children's needs and develop intervention plans.
As an outcome of your assessments, you will make recommendations on equipment and adaptations that children require to access their homes and schools as well as carry out activities of daily living. You will be supported in this by the other OTs in your team through both formal and informal supervision.
You will be expected to join and contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings and make professional recommendations. There are opportunities within the service to develop your skills as an OT through training and shadowing. There are also opportunities to develop your supervising skills through student placements, and you will also be invited to contribute towards service development.
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
Working Pattern:
This is a full-time post (37.5 hours) working Monday to Friday.
What you’ll need to succeed:
- A degree in Occupational Therapy and HCPC registration.
- A passion for working with disabled children and families.
- Excellent communication and team working skills.
- The ability to manage a varied caseload with supervision.
- Excellent time management skills.
- A commitment to continued professional development.
