Job summaryUniversity College London Hospitals is seeking to appoint a substantive consultant in Neurocritical Care, to the department of Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical care at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The post is required to meet the planned increase in clinical activity this year as well as ensuring a consultant led service at all times. The job is primarily to cover Neurocritical Care but there is the option if the successful candidate wishes to have sessions within theatres covering Neuroanaesthesia if dual trained. CV required with applicationMain duties of the jobThe National Hospital provides tertiary level care in a wide spectrum of neurological and neurosurgical disease with a regional, national and international referral base. The hospital is co-located with the Institute of Neurology in Queen Square, London WC1. Both institutions share the common aim of promoting research and teaching in neuroscience and its allied disciplines.The department of Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care comprises 25 consultants and 39 trainees. These posts support Neurological, Neurosurgical and Stroke patients within the Neurosciences Division of UCLH. The appointee will have both fixed sessions and work flexibly to cover consultant leave within Neurocritical Care as required. The department is also willing to accommodate further subspeciality interests such as Neuroanaesthesia and candidates are encouraged to discuss this prior to application and interview. All candidates must be eligible for full GMC registration and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of receiving CCST/ CCT Critical Care at the time of interview. Professional Qualifications

EssentialFull GMC Registration. Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by date of interview.On the GMC Specialist Register or eligible for entry within 6 months of attainment of CCT or equivalent in Intensive care medicine at date of interview. NB: Non UK trained doctors must be on the specialist register for Intensive care medicine by date of interviewFICM qualification for equivalentDesirableAdditional further qualifications

Clinical Experience

EssentialTraining in Intensive care medicine recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists Faculty of Intensive Care medicine, or that which is recognised as equivalent by the College.Advanced training in Neurocritical Care (minimum 6 months) in a major Neurosciences unitDesirableExperience as a senior clinical fellow or equivalent in critical care and neuro-critical care.Experience in more than one Neurocritical Care centre.

Clinical Skills

EssentialThe post holder is expected to have the clinical skills needed to provide Neurocritical Care for Neurosurgical, Neuromedical and Stroke patientsDesirableExperience in the use of advanced Neuromonitoring.Accredited in Focus Intensive care Echocardiograpghy (FICE) / Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) or equivalentTraining in Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography

Audit Management and IT

EssentialThe post holders are required to have management skills appropriate to assist in the delivery of a comprehensive service for Neurocritical Care in association with other department members.Evidence of quality improvement projects resulting in improvement to patient care.DesirableLocal committee experienceEvidence of involvement in change management or service redevelopment

Teaching & Research

EssentialThe post holder should have experience of teaching different staff groups in the theory and practice of Critical Care and Neurocritical care. Attendance of teaching courses.Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems; ability to critically appraise published evidenceDesirableAuthor of publications in high impact factor peer- reviewed journals.Higher degree in Neuroscience/ research Track record in translational research relevant to the speciality.Experience of research methods and evidence of research outputs, including presentation and publication of translational research or clinical reviews
