Job description:

We have an opportunity for a Lead Engineer - Aero Mechanical Design to join the Andretti Cadillac Team at the new Silverstone Facility. In this role you will lead a skilled group of design engineers in helping develop the team’s 60% wind tunnel model and testing facility, designing, and developing mechanical and electromechanical systems for the model. Principal Accountabilities:

  • Management and responsibility of the Mechanical Design Team.
  • Lead the delivery of high quality designed mechanical parts for the wind tunnel model.
  • Management of the Aero mechanical design workload and meeting required targets.
  • Management and responsibility for complete design projects in all aspects of the design of the mechanical systems used on the wind tunnel model, test facility and aero instrumentation.
  • Analyze and optimize designs to improve the performance and reliability of engineering systems.
  • Evaluate, implement, develop, and maintain improved methods of working.
  • Lead discussions with the aero department stakeholders to complete mechanical design solutions that achieve the project scope.
  • Evaluate, implement and contribute new ideas in design methodology including process and procedures.
  • Investigate and research new technologies and materials to be used in the development of mechanical systems.
  • Mentor junior members of the group.
  • Implement and manage standard design practices, ensuring these are adhered to.
  • Occasional travel may be required as part of this role.

Requirements

  • A minimum 8 years’ relevant experience in a similar role within the motorsport industry.
  • Extensive experience of mechanical design using 3D CAD software (preferably 3DExperience/CATIA).
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of complex mechanical engineering.
  • Ability to apply structural engineering techniques for part validation (FEA).
  • Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques including composite manufacture and advanced digital manufacture.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of GD&T and its application.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Able to perform duties in a timely manner with minimal errors.
  • Ability to line manage / lead teams effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders/directors.
  • Clear and concise communication, verbally and with the use of email.
  • Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture.
