Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Paediatrician with appropriate skills and experience in palliative medicine to work as part of the All Wales Paediatric Palliative Care Network, both in the tertiary centre and in a large local district general hospital as well as a Children's Hospice. This is a part-time post working 7 sessions per week.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £81,620 per annum for a 7-session commitment.

Applicants should preferably be on the GMC Specialist Register and must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee

Main duties of the job

Core tertiary work is shared with the other three Consultants on the team on a 'Consultant of the week' basis. In addition to that core All Wales work, the post offers tertiary cover to patients in Swansea Bay and Hywel Dda Health Boards.

The post combines tertiary work with local Level III provision in Swansea Bay Health Board. The hospice element of the post provides medical palliative care support to inpatients at Ty Hafan Children's Hospice alongside other Consultant colleagues.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will cover a catchment of schools within the Cardiff area, joining colleagues with catchments in the Vale area. They will see children in school age community clinics, as well accepting neurodevelopmental pathway referrals from these areas with administrative and clinical support from the neurodevelopmental team. Time is provided in the job plan for pathway panel meetings and panel feedback.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of patients in their direct care. The Appointee will be predominately responsible for community based paediatric care within the Cardiff area. .

The post holder will also work in the Cardiff school-aged setting as the link doctor covering a catchment of schools. Referrals for children within this catchment will be accepted, as well as specific referrals on the Neuro-developmental pathway from these same schools with support of the central ND admin and clinical team. Time is offered for patient related communication, discussion, and administration, as well as time for discussion panels and MDT. This will involve evaluation of a case load of new and follow up patients within a multidisciplinary fashion.
