Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist Band: 7 Trust: The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust Location: Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton, SM2 5PT Working Pattern: Full Time 37.5 hours Monday to Friday We are searching for a skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our dedicated team at Medacs Healthcare working within the Speech and Language Therapy service based at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Working with Medacs Healthcare you'll play a crucial role in the provision of highly specialist clinical service, from acute to palliative and terminal stages of care, to patients across the lifespan referred to the Trust with a wide range of communication and/or swallowing disorders secondary to cancer and/or its treatment. The main referral source is the Neuro Oncology Unit who provide a clinically complex case load where patients have undergone radical treatment including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Other referral sources include head and neck cancer, haematological and gastrointestinal tumours. The Royal Marsden has a vital role in championing change and improvement in cancer care through research and innovation, education and leading-edge practice. They are incredibly proud of their international reputation for pushing the boundaries and for our groundbreaking work ensuring patients receive the very latest and best in cancer treatment and care. The Department of Speech, Swallowing and Voice service forms part of Therapy Services within the Clinical Services Division. The highly skilled therapists provide a co-ordinated, high quality service for patients with communication and swallowing needs that are patient focused and lead to an improved quality of life for the patient. Key Responsibilities: This essential role based in Sutton is needed to see a range of patients requiring SLT input, including head and neck oncology, neuro oncology, GI and lung cancer as well as a small paediatric component. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the service, seeing both in and out patients, across the lifespan, with regards to communIcation and swallowing. They will carry out objective asssements such as videoflurosocpy and FEES ( Flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing) with support from senior colleagues and will attend MDTs such as neuro oncology. The post holder will also be responsible for support and supervision of a newly qualified band 5 to aid in completion of competencies. If the post is not filled we will not be fulfilling national guidance such as BAHNO ( British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists) and NICE Head and Neck Guidance.To be successful in this role you will need: HCPC Registered Diploma/Degree leading to RCSLT licence to practice Attended post graduate dysphagia training leading to independent practice in adults Post graduate training/experience in videofluoroscopy with dysphagia in adults Post graduate training in the use of AAC with children and adults.
