Job Description

At INEOS Energy we produce oil and gas and trade oil, gas, power, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and carbon credits. This is supported by our investments in low carbon technologies, which will help sustain our business through the energy transition. Direct examples of these areas are ‘Project Greensand’, our pioneering carbon storage project in the Danish North Sea and our investment in HydrogenOne Capital.

To be successful the applicant needs to have proven trading expertise of trading in the EU & UK Carbon Market, and be able to formulate and articulate sound, profitable strategy recommendations to other traders.

The successful candidate will also have excellent interpersonal skills which will be used in dealing with market counterparties and internal customers. The job holder will be versatile and enjoy working within a team environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Direct ownership of a trading book adding value and insight from in depth knowledge gained from previous roles alongside adhering to risk policy.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the global energy market to ensure INEOS trading strategies are profitable.
  • Undertake market analysis and share market information for the trading desk.
  • Work with the Trading team, Gas Lead and Director in development and maintenance of profitable trading and hedging strategies suitable for INEOS gas & carbon portfolio.
  • Ensure recommendations are in line with the strategy and risk appetite of the business.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Engineering, Science or Business Degree
  • At least 1-3 years of Carbon trading experience
  • At least 2-5 years of EUA market knowledge

Technical skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of how the EU / UK Carbon market is structured
  • Programming experience would be advantageous

Behavioural skills

  • High energy levels and a hands-on approach
  • Excellent people skills to interact with suppliers and internal contacts at all levels of seniority
  • A true team player, highly driven, determined & hard working
  • Innovative thinking and problem-solving skills
