Contract rate: £30.00 Per Hour
Contract Term: 12 Months

Role Purpose:

This role will work as part of the ED Business Services Team. The Business Analyst will work closely with functional and technical teams to assess and document current practice, design, develop and document future processes and working practices, gather and document user requirements, develop functional specifications, facilitate business improvements and ensure each of these aspects is approved by the relevant users or stakeholders so that solutions align with customer expectations.

The role holder will also be responsible for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, from end users through to senior managers, and will be expected to act as an interface between technical and non-technical teams and individuals.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Analysis and Research: Lead the identification, analysis, documentation and verification of existing processes and system inputs and outputs through discussion with relevant stakeholders. Utilise appropriate industry tools and techniques such as task-flow and work-flow analysis. Actively seek to enable ED to articulate business change management implications, and business system inputs and outputs.

Design and Improvement: Leads on the design and/or improvement of business systems and processes. Leads the development of detailed functional specifications and design of system configuration documents to support new functionality / systems. Leads cost vs. benefit analysis work on potential customisations. Support the development and delivery of training materials for users.


Stakeholder Management: Responsible for the development of highly effective working relationships and securing buy-ins at senior levels. Secures sign up of staff to new business processes. Liaises with stakeholders regularly to develop understanding of processes and requirements. Plans and facilitates workshops. Clearly explains process and functional specifications to audiences at all levels.

Decision-Making: Responsible for the resolution of business issues relating to processes, requirements and functional specifications. Determines changes and improvements to business processes whilst considering their tactical and strategic impact across all functional areas. This breadth of this consideration will be driven by the scale of the project and could span the entire Collegiate University.

Training and Support: Contribute to the creation of end-user training, supporting documentation, organisation and delivery of training to users, as appropriate.

Development: Contribute to the design of test plans and test scripts necessary to prove functionality. Support Test Teams to enable them to effectively carry out their duties. Present, where appropriate, compelling reasons for process change. Effectively communicating with internal and supplier-facing teams to enable the development of appropriate solutions

Experience:

Understanding of business change management and business analysis concepts. Good understanding of project management techniques. A strong communicator able to develop effective working relationships swiftly, engendering collaborative approaches and encouraging buy-ins. Demonstrated expertise using written & verbal communication skills in complex environments to multiple audiences. Experience of working in HE/not-for-profit sectors is desirable. Excellent analytical and critical reasoning skills, including verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to stay calm and work effectively under pressure.

Experience of working with business process mapping software tools would be an advantage.

Skills:

IT/Business professional with experience operating in complex environments. Experience of working with IT solutions. Good technical IT skills with thorough understanding of current technical capabilities and limitations in the industry. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, email and the internet. The ability to identify and consider cross-collaborating solutions with multiple stakeholders to define the current and future state business processes, identifying issues and risks, suggesting mitigation strategies and driving towards technology solutions. Demonstrable capacity to analyse, think critically and strategically, and to innovate to resolve/respond to problems and issues. Familiarity with business process capture and documentation tools and techniques. The ability to work as part of a diverse team. The ability to communicate and to be persuasive across a variety of audiences with varying outlooks, aims and objectives. Ability to communicate concepts and ideas, drawing on relevant data as appropriate. Strong written and verbal communication skills at a business level.

Be able to work with and contribute to/support the work of several teams, often under pressure to meet deadlines.

Qualifications:

The role holder will be educated to a degree level or be able to demonstrate equivalent attainment through experience.
