NW8 | Family Support Worker

Mature Nanny/Family Support Worker, in London NW8. A unique opportunity to help a highly intelligent young mother with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), to support her 2 ½ year old daughter. £46,800.00 gross per annum + accommodation. Wage/Salary: £46,800.00 gross per annum Driver Essential? Not required Essential: Good early years, childcare/nannying experience, experience of people with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and mental health needs and comfortable supporting a post-trauma individual. A *female candidate who enjoys cooking. Start Date: Mid December 2024 (with a crossover with the current Snap Care, Family Support Worker) Days & Hours: 5 days a week, up to 50 hours a week. Typically, Mon - Fri, but flexibility to work other days on occasions. Accommodation: Double bedroom with en-suite bathroom in Catherine’s 3-bedroom flat, use of the facilities, all bills included. Could be live-in full-time, or just for the 5 days of work. Recruiter: Sally Britton (url removed) About this client/child: Nancy, 2 ½, is a vibrant, healthy, and bright little girl with an inquisitive and talkative nature. She has advanced vocabulary for her age and is full of energy. Nancy enjoys a variety of activities, playing in the park, swimming, soft play, singing along to songs and imaginative play. She loves to try new food. Her mother, Catherine, is a highly intelligent young woman who has ASC. After a traumatic experience, Catherine has made significant progress in addressing some related mental health challenges, but the event impacted on her confidence. Catherine is a dedicated mother who enjoys spending time with Nancy, but she occasionally needs gentle reminders and guidance to ensure her daughter’s routine is followed. Catherine can experience moments of stress and anxiety, during which she may become dysregulated or inattentive, and her behaviour may be unpredictable. Due to her ASC diagnosis, Catherine can be rigid in her ideas/thinking, which can be challenging with a toddler. Her parents and younger sister live nearby and are actively involved in both her and Nancy's lives. Overview of role: The Nanny/Family Support Worker will work alongside Catherine, being her companion, providing emotional support and helping her to continue being a great mother and fostering a healthy, happy home for both her and Nancy. You’ll help Catherine to shape the next stage of her life beyond motherhood and recovery; encouraging and enabling her to take part in fun activities and exercise such as swimming, volunteering, and even some work when Nancy is in full-time school. You’ll engage and play with Nancy of course, but not take over her care, knowing when to step in, or step back. A cleaner is employed for 4 hours every other week, but you’ll ensure the home is always clean and tidy. The position is typically Monday to Friday, but flexibility is required to work other 5-day shifts on occasions. The hours are flexible, with a maximum of 10 hours per day, and there is often on-call/free time when Nancy is at nursery, when Catherine can be left alone for short periods. No overnight care is needed, Catherine needs the presence of an adult in the home at night. An additional Family Support Worker is employed for the other 2 days of the week and will stay overnight when working, in a 3rd bedroom. Who this job would suit: A mature, patient, calm, reflective, kind, non-judgmental and empathetic person looking for a long-term commitment. Someone with good autism and nannying/childcare experience. You’ll be psychologically astute and be able to grasp the complexity of Catherine’s situation and her relationship with her daughter. You’ll enjoy cooking and helping to maintain a warm, nurturing environment for Catherine and Nancy. This role is open to *female applicants only. What’s great about this job: You’ll have the chance to work with a wonderful family, well-known to Snap Care for many years, in one of London’s most desirable locations. You’ll play a key role in helping Catherine regain her confidence and independence, enabling her to be the best mum she can be to Nancy, and enable her to enjoy fun and purposeful activities. Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews. * Where gender is specified, it is a genuine occupational requirement under para. 1, schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010
