Transfer Station Supervisor

Location - York Depot and Transfer Station (YO26 7QF)

Hours - 6am - 4pm, Monday to Friday, Saturday hours, Bank Holiday cover and additional weekday overtime.

A vacancy has arisen for a Transfer Station Supervisor with one of the industry’s leading waste management companies which can be a demanding yet rewarding opportunity for this varied full time role. The ideal candidate will preferably have previous experience of waste operations however, not essential as training will be provided. Day to day, the Transfer Station Supervisor will oversee frontline operations of the Transfer Station, supervise and build a good team relationship with operatives to ensure production targets are met while remaining fully compliant with health and safety, the site permit and environmental legislation.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, allocate work instructions and monitor the performance of transfer station operatives.
  • Mobile plant management, including liaison with suppliers for parts, breakdown and service.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and that all operations within the Transfer Station comply with the site licence / PPC permit.
  • Contribute toward on-going cost control, actively seeking to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, increasing margin and meeting budget targets set.
  • Manage, motivate, train and develop a team as required.
  • Effectively manage absence, under performance and any misconduct. Implementing disciplinary procedures as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, near miss reporting and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure monthly TBT’s and serious Incidents are delivered to staff in a timely manner.
  • Complete all administrative tasks associated with role, including daily site checks, weekly sales orders and weekly stock taking on site.
  • Ensure the site has adequate cover of staff during operational hours including overtime and holiday rotas.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with internal and external customers
  • Deputise for the Transfer Station Manager and carry out other reasonable tasks as the Company may require from time to time.

The following skills would be advantageous, however where skills fall short of requirements full training will be provided to the right candidate -

  • WAMITAB Certificate of Technical Competence preferably with certificates for Transfer hazardous, pre-treatment and processing or similar equivalent.
  • Experienced Mobile plant operator for tele-handler, loading shovel and wheeled 360 grab machine. FLT would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Good working knowledge of existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation.
  • Experience of managing front line staff.
  • Computer literate and comfortable using Word, Excel and PowerPoint for presentations.
  • Full Weighbridge training would be provided.
