Technical Production Manager (Contemporary Retail)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Production Manager to join our team. The ideal individual will have a strong background in development, sourcing, and production management within the fashion industry. This role will be responsible for overseeing the entire production flow process, from concept development to delivery, ensuring product quality, compliance, and timely execution.

Responsibilities:

  1. Product Development:
  • Lead the product development process, working closely with design and merchandising teams to bring concepts to life.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source materials and components that meet quality standards and design requirements.
  1. Fabric/ Trims Sourcing and Management:
  • Identify and source fabrics and trims from reliable suppliers and vendors, ensuring quality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage fabric and trim inventory levels to support production needs and minimize stockouts.
  1. Tech Packs and Sizing/Grading:
  • Develop detailed tech packs including specifications, construction details, and measurement charts.
  • Manage sizing and grading processes to ensure consistency and fit accuracy across product lines.
  1. Communication and Issue Resolution:
  • Communicate with suppliers and vendors to provide feedback on samples, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to design and quality standards.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with cross-functional teams to coordinate production activities and address any concerns.
  1. Quality Control (QC) and Testing:
  • Implement rigorous quality control procedures to ensure product quality and consistency.
  • Coordinate product testing and evaluation to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and performance standards.
  1. Supplier Manual and Factory Management:
  • Develop and maintain supplier manuals outlining production requirements, quality standards, and compliance procedures.
  • Manage factory relationships to ensure compliance with ethical sourcing practices and production standards.
  1. SMS POs and PLM/ERP Management:
  • Raise and manage SMS (Salesman Sample) purchase orders to initiate production processes.
  • Oversee PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems to track production milestones and manage inventory.
  1. Shipping and Delivery Management:
  • Coordinate shipping logistics and manage delivery schedules to ensure timely receipt of products.
  • Monitor SMS delivery dates and communicate any delays or issues to relevant stakeholders.
  1. Sample Management and Fit Sessions:
  • Manage sample development process, including fit sessions and approval processes.
  • Collaborate with design and merchandising teams to ensure product fit and quality meet brand standards.
  1. Pattern, Block, and Fit Management:
  • Oversee pattern development, block creation, and fit management to achieve desired garment fit and silhouette.
  • Collaborate with design teams to refine patterns and blocks based on aesthetic and fit preferences.
  1. Returns Analysis and Control:
  • Analyse returns data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement strategies to minimise returns and improve product quality and customer satisfaction.
  1. Production Planning and Cost/Budget Management:
  • Develop production plans and schedules to meet demand forecasts and delivery deadlines.
  • Monitor production costs and manage budgets to ensure cost-effective production and maximise profitability.
  1. Cross Team Collaboration:
  • Foster positive relationships with design and merchandising teams to ensure alignment of production processes with creative vision and market demands.
  1. Product Launch Coordination, Planning, Delivery and Analysis:
  • Coordinate product launch activities, including range planning, delivery schedules, and marketing campaigns.
  • Conduct competition analysis to identify market trends and benchmark performance.
  • Manage critical path timelines to ensure on-time delivery and execution of production milestones.
  • Analyse sales performance and product metrics to identify best and worst-performing products and inform future strategies.

Person profile - capabilities, proficiency, experience:

  • A degree in Fashion Design, Textile Engineering, Apparel Production is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a technical production manager or similar role in the retail industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of garment construction, fabric properties, and production processes.
  • Proficiency in PLM and ERP systems, with experience in production planning and inventory management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of ethical sourcing practices, compliance standards, and factory management.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyse data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with fit sessions, pattern making, and garment fitting would be advantageous.
