Job Description

Senior Vineyard Worker

Location: Thurnham Vineyard, Kent

Responsible to: Vineyard Supervisor and Area Vineyard Manager

Responsible for: Vineyard team

Key Communicators: Vineyard, Winery, and Facilities.

Overall Purpose:

To provide guidance and leadership as a senior member of the vineyard team under the direction of the Vineyard supervisor. Working closely with the team to ensure outcomes of the day to day tasks are achieved per specification. In doing so you will provide ongoing training and mentoring to all vineyard team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all work is carried out as per Supervisor or Management instruction and provide training and guidance to other members of the team. Works include;
  • Pruning
  • Management of vines – leaf trimming, shoot thinning, yield manipulation.
  • Spray applications – record keeping.
  • Trellis maintenance – including vineyard establishment as required.
  • Ground management – weed control, mowing and soil cultivation.
  • Machinery maintenance.
  • Site maintenance.

  • Under the guidance of the Supervisor, you will assist and direct;
  • Supervision of agency or Nyetimber staff maintaining a professional and approachable attitude.
  • Assist with record keeping when requested by the Vineyard Supervisor.
  • To provide cover for the Vineyard Supervisor during periods of holiday, sickness, and act in their absence. Provide updates to Vineyard Manager/Viticulturist over this period.
  • Ensure staff are following correct procedures and offer guidance/training when lacking.
  • To report to the Vineyard Supervisor any issues that may affect the smooth running of the vineyard.

  • Constantly strive for improvements in quality, efficiency, cost and professionalism.
  • Provide ongoing training and assistance to all team members across various vineyard sites as requested.
  • Undertake duties commensurate with responsibility of the role and any other reasonable management request.

Other Responsibilities

  • To always act as a positive ambassador of Nyetimber including maintaining good relationships with our neighbours.
  • Whilst this role is in part a supervisory one it is expected that for the majority of the time it will be a practical role and during times of supervision the senior vineyard worker should “lead by example”.
  • At times you will be expected to provide assistance on other sites under the direction of the Vineyard Manager.
