The A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet is a £750 million improvement scheme commencing main construction towards the latter part of 2022 and with an open to traffic date of 2026. The scheme involves the creation of a new three tier junction at the existing Black Cat roundabout, over 10 miles of new dual carriageway along with 17 structures to be created, one of which is a viaduct over the Great River Ouse. There is interface with services ranging from high pressure gas pipeline to 400 KV overhead lines.

The Works Inspector is responsible for managing the independent site inspections. Providing assurance to both the Skanska Management and the Client that the delivery team and the supply chain are delivering the Works in accordance with the specification and the design requirements. The first line of defence will be by the delivery of on-site coaching and training to the Delivery Team to help them understand the standard required. The second line will be by carrying out inspections of the Works. The role will involve working in a specific area of the project and providing support to other Works Inspectors across both sections of the project.

You'll:

  • Ensure that quality is given the highest priority in the delivery of the works to achieve right first time.
  • Communicate with delivery team and sub-contractors to ensure full understanding of quality control requirements.
  • Be proactive in preventing substandard Works being produced by coaching and providing training, where applicable, to the Delivery and the supply chain.
  • Ensure that all quality documentation is in place and prestart checks have been carried out prior to the commencement of the work.
  • Monitor the quality of materials via goods inwards inspections
  • Check the works during progress and on completion, on behalf of Skanska to ensure that it has been constructed in line with the specification and relevant design.
  • Ensure that inspections and tests are carried out in line with the inspection and test plans and the Safe System of Work (for controlling the works) and that all necessary documentation is produced in a timely manner.
  • Where works do not comply with the requirements, ensure that Non-conformance Reports are produced, preventive action taken and that they are closed in a timely manner. Offer advice where applicable
  • Support the Quality teams in carrying out site surveillances.
  • Support the resolution of any quality related issues. Offer advice where applicable
  • Support the collation and completion of project record packages including the coordination of the completion of snagging and the closing out of DOWLS/ Punchlist items on an ongoing basis
  • Raise and capture any Quality focused Lessons learned and communicate them to the Quality and Delivery Teams, including the Supply Chain
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering
  • Relevant site supervisory experience (Foreman, Site Supervisor, works Manager, Site Agent, etc.) on civil engineering projects, preferably major highway schemes. Or Quality/ Works Inspector experience from a previous civil engineering project.
  • Highways experience and knowledge of highways specifications and standards
  • Experience of onsite inspections against an approved Detail Design and the generation of applicable assurance records
  • Relevant CSCS Card and Highways Passport
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel).
  • On-site training in Quality.
