As our business continues to grow, we have a strategic requirement to hire a site-based Head of Inspection.

The Head of Inspection will be responsible for overseeing site inspection activities, as well as the management of a team of 30+ inspectors.

The Principal Quality Engineer (PQE) – Head of Inspection supports client projects within multi-discipline teams by providing quality assurance, management, and control services. Their main role is to ensure the client and supply chain adhere to contracted quality requirements. They also help client programs meet project-wide quality standards and establish project-specific quality measures. This includes overseeing activities like Manufacturing Inspection and Test Plans, maintaining quality records, facilitating non-conformance reports, conducting root cause analysis, and performing audits on client sites in the UK. The PQE collaborates closely with project functions and the supply chain to ensure consistent project quality, prioritizing nuclear safety. Additionally, the PQE may lead project direction from a quality perspective and act as the Intelligent Customer as needed by the client.

Key Responsibilities to include:

  • Lead, supervise and manage a team of 30-50 across QA/QC and inspection.
  • Defining quality arrangements for safe and efficient project delivery from inception to operational handover including Life Time Quality Records (LTQR).
  • Approving Project Quality Plans and Manufacturing Inspection and Test (MIT) Plans.
  • Directing and conducting surveillance/inspection activities at client sites and subcontractor facilities.
  • Providing guidance on quality acceptability criteria and product quality assessment.
  • Ensuring data capture and analysis of quality metrics for clear management reporting.
  • Overseeing the non-conformance process to identify preventive actions, facilitate timely closure of reports, and maximize project-wide learning.
  • Leading work stream and cross-project audits and contributing to planning.
  • Providing budgetary oversight as required
  • Ensuring clear management reporting through data capture and analysis of quality metrics
My profile
  • Leadership and teamwork skills with a strong understanding of quality assurance, control principles, and process management in projects.
  • Experience in large/complicated project environments, preferably in the nuclear (or heavily regulated) sector.
  • CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector.
  • Internationally recognised NDT Qualifications in Radiography; Dye Penetrant; Magnetic Particle; ultrasonics. Minimum Level III.
  • Knowledge of National and International standards such as GS-R-3, ISO 9001, ISO 19443, ISO 3834, EN10204.
  • Member/Fellow Grade Member of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) and a Chartered Quality Practitioner.
  • Qualified to Degree/master’s degree in a Quality Related Subject or HNC/Diploma/C&G Graduate level as a minimum.
  • Registered as a Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.)
  • Ability to analyse quality data across various business levels.
  • Skill in influencing and providing constructive challenges accepted by others.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using basic and advanced quality tools and techniques (e.g., Histograms, SPC, Cause & Effect, Design of Experiments).
  • Fluent in verbal and written English, with knowledge of French or another second language being a plus.
  • Ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels.
  • Experience working in an international quality environment is beneficial.

Security clearance:

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK BPSS security.
