Associate Director (Tax) M&A & Transaction Solutions, London

Aon’s Mergers & Acquisitions team (AMATS) is seeking an Associate Director to join their market leading EMEA tax team. The successful candidate will support the design, structuring, and placing of complex insurance programs and innovative and effective solutions in high-quality transactions through the use of insurance capital. Such solutions might in an M&A context, include removing barriers to deals by transferring identified tax risks to the insurance market, or might involve risk transfer in a business-as-usual (i.e. non-transaction) context. In addition, the successful candidate will, over time, assist the Aon EMEA tax team with innovation to expand the universe of insurable risks.

This would be an interesting role for a chartered accountant with experience in M&A tax or a tax lawyer wanting to make a move to the business side and a more commercial, client-focused role.

What the day will look like

  • Working with the EMEA tax team to drive placement efficiencies and strategic insurer engagements through managing the delivery of high-quality client service and deliverables across the UK & EMEA.
  • Executing on and refining a comprehensive broking strategy across the UK & EMEA and implementing it through the Aon internal network in each country.
  • Assisting with and developing trusted insurer relationships across a range of key target regions and products.
  • Building and developing strong internal and external networks to unlock client opportunities and facilitate the delivery of exceptional client service. Including assisting with the preparation and delivery of pitches and market update presentations to clients.
  • Working with the regional AMATS CEOs, Financial Lines leads, Chief Broking Officers and Regional AMATS Champions, to proactively identify and target large PE and Infrastructure opportunities to maximise our commercial position.
  • Acting as a sector subject matter expert to support other client teams develop relationships, win, and deliver engagements.
  • Working with Aon colleagues, driving the development of new innovative solutions including developing valuable and timely content applicable to both clients and the broader AMATS team.

How this opportunity is different

The AMATS team provides both deal advisory services and a wide range of transaction solutions to clients undertaking M&A activity across UK and EMEA. The Pan-European team has grown rapidly in the last four years with over 85 colleagues in the UK and a total of 250 across EMEA. The team has a diverse range of backgrounds including investment bankers, Big 4, lawyers, actuaries, plus technical specialists including insurance.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Transactional tax experience would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience in Transaction Solutions, including tax liability insurance and warranty & Indemnity insurance would be useful, though not essential.
  • Previous experience managing relationships with clients.
  • Some project management responsibilities in current or previous roles.
  • Track record of working across different European markets would be an advantage.
