The Opportunity
If you are looking to kick start a career that is rewarding, where you can really make a difference, then come join our Countryside Worker Apprenticeship Programme. You will work on one of the most exciting and significant sustainable energy projects that our country has ever seen, being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Sizewell C is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for at least 60 years.
Within this 15-month programme, you will play a pivotal role in the conservation, maintenance, and management of our estate's natural and cultural heritage. You will be working with the existing SZC rangers, learning about and assisting in the protection of wildlife habitats, managing recreational activities, and maintaining the estate's infrastructure to provide stakeholders with an exceptional experience while preserving the natural beauty of the area.
Key responsibilities include managing habitats through techniques like coppicing and hedge laying, constructing paths, and conducting wildlife surveys to support effective habitat management. You’ll also gain essential skills in boundary and access management, understand relevant legislation, and apply health and safety practices.
Ideal candidates will possess a strong enthusiasm for the environment, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility, reliability, and effective communication skills are essential as they will collaborate with colleagues and engage with the public.
This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the conservation efforts surrounding Sizewell C while developing practical skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.
This role is based in Leiston with some travel required to other sites such as HPC in Somerset and to Suffolk New College for college days.

Sizewell C Limited (Sizewell C) is nuclear site licensed company whose business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Sizewell C was formerly under the majority ownership of the EDF Group but is currently majority owned by HM Government and operates as an independent company. EDF remains a key shareholder in Sizewell C and the business therefore maintains close links to EDF as a part of its ‘nuclear family’.
