Summary

KMPT are pleased to offer a 2 year secondment working within the Women's Outreach Service. The women's outreach service is a 2 year pilot project that has been developed as part of the women's secure blended services in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex secure care pathway (KSS). This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in developing and shaping a new service to improve outcomes for women.

The aims of the women's service are to reduce the number of women placed within secure beds who do not benefit from secure care. To ensure that that principle of placement within the least restrictive environment is maintained and work with others to identify potential alternatives including effective community-based options and to benchmark services for women within the collaborative against known best practice nationally.

The successful candidate will be an RMN with significant experience of working with women in a forensic setting. Have expert knowledge of nursing practice and multidisciplinary team working, have substantial evidence of recent relevant clinical practice and be able to demonstrate expert advice within the field of offender health with evidence of inter-professional collaboration and advanced decision-making skills that reflect a patient/carer focus.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing additional support to women referred from Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICU), and prison healthcare services where it is possible to support the care and treatment and subsequent discharge without the need to admit into a secure inpatient service supporting the principle of provision of care in the least restrictive environment.

You will provide expert nurse leadership, advice and clinical consultancy to nurses and multidisciplinary teams in the area of forensic mental health nursing. Support PICU and prison healthcare services in their work with service users to reduce distress and therefore risk behaviours, and work with referring services to develop appropriate crisis and behavioural support plans for service users.

Qualifications

Essential


  • Registered Nurse mental health or Registered Nurse Learning Disability Level 1
  • Evidence of masters level education in related subject.
  • Evidence of significant relevant professional development
  • Masters level education in related subject

Desirable


  • Studying to Doctorate level
  • Registered teaching qualification e.g. PGCE or equivalent

Experience

Essential


  • Substantial evidence of recent relevant clinical Practice in Forensic Mental Health.
  • Expert knowledge of nursing practice and multidisciplinary team working
  • Experience of working with trauma informed principles of practice.
  • Advanced decision-making skills that reflect a patient/ carer focus
  • Evidence of inter-professional collaboration
  • Evidence of teaching experience
