Exercise of general professional duties

Carry out the professional duties of an EYFS teacher as circumstances may require, under the reasonable direction of the Head.

Professional duties

The following duties are deemed to be included in the professional duties which a teacher is required to perform:

Teaching

·having regard to the curriculum for the school (which includes the EYFS & National Curriculum), and with a view to promoting the development of the abilities and aptitudes of the pupils in any class or group assigned.

·planning and preparing schemes of work and lessons.

·having regard to and implementing the school policies relating to teaching and learning, e.g. presentation policy, marking policy.

·establishing and maintaining a working atmosphere conducive to learning by setting high expectations for pupils’ behaviour and maintaining good discipline in accordance with the behaviour policy.

·using teaching methods, resources and approaches which sustain progress and interest, matching these to the pupils being taught, so that pace, challenge and motivation are maintained.

·teaching, according to their educational and pastoral needs, the pupils assigned, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupils in school and elsewhere;

·ensuring effective teaching of whole classes, groups or individuals within a whole class setting, so that learning objectives are met and best use is made of teaching time;

· setting high expectations for all pupils.

·demonstrate regard for Fundamental British Values and Protected Characteristics both within teaching and interactions with colleagues and parents.

·creating a classroom environment which celebrates supports and extends opportunities for learning.

·assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils.

·develop an effective partnership with parents and help them understand how they can support their child’s learning and personal development.

Other activities

·follow the school’s Child Protection Policy and Procedures to ensure the safeguarding of pupils.

·developing effective and meaningful experiences in both indoor and outdoor EYFS provision

·promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group of pupils assigned.

·providing guidance and advice to pupils on educational and social matters and on their further education.

·making records of and reports on the personal and social needs of pupils.

·communicating and consulting with the parents of pupils.

· communicating and co-operating with persons or bodies outside the school.

·participating in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above.

·demonstrating interest and support to colleagues and pupils by attending school functions which occur from time to time in the evenings and at weekends, e.g. Carol Service, school plays, Open Days etc.

·contributing to the school half termly magazine with appropriate news, articles and photographs, showcasing activities, experiences and achievements of EYFS and any other areas of responsibility.

·contributing to the school’s public relations programme.

·taking part in the rota for breaks, lunchtime, and after school clubs and duties across the school day

·respect and maintain confidentiality in relation to children, families and staff.

·be a committed and active member of the staff team and school community.

·be an ambassador for the school, including in the wider community.

Assessments and reports

· providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils and attendance at parent-teacher meetings twice each year.

Performance Management

·participating in performance management arrangements.

Review, induction, further training and development

·reviewing from time to time methods of teaching and programmes of work.

·participating in arrangements for further training and professional development as such including undertaking training and professional development which aim to meet needs identified in statements of objectives or in performance management.

·in the case of serving an induction period, participating in arrangements for supervision and training.

Educational methods

·co-operating with the Head and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements.

Discipline, health and safety

·maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere, including completing the appropriate risk assessments when required.

Staff meetings

·participating in meetings at the school which relate to the curriculum for the school or the administration or organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements.

Cover

·supervising and so far as practicable teaching any pupils where the person timetabled to take the class is not available to do so.

External examinations

·participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for external examinations, assessing pupils for the purposes of such examinations and recording and reporting such assessments; and participating in arrangements for pupils presentation for, and conducting, such examinations.

Administration

·participating in administrative and organisational tasks, including the direction or supervision of persons providing support for the teachers in the school;

·attending assemblies, registering the attendance of pupils and supervising pupils, whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after school sessions.

Staff Handbook

·Have regard for School policies and the Staff Handbook and be familiar with its contents.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

·The post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible or with whom they come into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the school’s safeguarding policy statement at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school, they must report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
