The post-holder is responsible on a rotational basis for the operation of the Andrology laboratory and the supervision of advanced associate practitioners, associate practitioners, and biomedical support workers. The post-holder has responsibility for ensuring the timely processing of samples alongside quality management system activities within their remit.


The post-holder is expected to apply specialist scientific knowledge, skill and expertise at the required professional level for the full range of Andrology procedures, providing a high-quality service to patients. This level of responsibility is particularly important in Andrology where decisions may be made independently without the opportunity to refer to more senior staff.


The post-holder is expected to be involved in appropriate research.


The UK National External Quality Assessment Schemes (UK NEQAS) for Reproductive Science are also operated from this laboratory. The role involves scientific, leadership, clinical, quality and research components. These are reliant on key relationships with the Department of Reproductive Medicine, local Hospitals, Primary Care and the patients that attend/use the service.


Registration with Health and Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist
Honours degree in an appropriate science subject (Biomedical Science) or equivalent.
Post registration experience in Medical Laboratory Science
Strong communication skills to that support the understanding of complex scientific information to users of the service
Level 2 counselling skills.
