National Highways have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to join the Regional Investment Programme (RIP) within our Major Projects (MP) directorate.
The successful candidate will be based at either Bristol or Exeter, however here at National Highways, we have a hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of office/site attendance and agile home working.
In your new role, you will be working as part of a wider project management team supporting a Senior Project Manager on schemes such as the new M5 Junction 10 works. Project activities include monitoring the performance of multiple external contactors and consultants, ensuring adherence to effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards across the supply chain and National Highways ensuring successful delivery of agreed project outcomes and acting in line with mandatory and delegated responsibilities.
Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Programme Managers, Senior Project Managers, and other key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure full mutual understanding of your projects' strategic and delivery objectives, to report on and review project performance, and to agree solutions that resolve complex issues.
Design, agree and implement project plans. Ensure that all activities are appropriately organised to deliver project objectives, and appropriately resourced to deliver the required outcomes.
Management of project budget, schedule, risk and outputs, against identified baseline budgets and schedule, whilst supporting the delivery of National Highways performance indices.
Oversee feasibility, design, and assessment work for proposed projects, to inform the development of business cases and investment proposals.
Contribute to the development of robust business cases, to clarify business benefits, quantify resource requirements and identify project interdependencies.
Identify and evaluate emerging risks, issues, dependencies and constraints associated with the project, escalating where appropriate. Commission and manage the performance of delivery partners and expert consultancy support as appropriate, ensuring that project objectives and requirements are clearly understood, setting clear expectations for health and safety management, time and cost; Experience of successfully delivering complex, medium/high risk or high-profile capital programmes and/or projects.
Commercial skills with proven ability to negotiate and manage contracts to deliver outcomes and drive value for money.
Demonstrate experience as mentor and/or coach to develop project management talent, skills and competence within a complex project environment.
Be a member of APM (Association for Project Management) or appropriate professional body for their specialist field or a willingness and commitment to attain.

RIP is one of the programmes within National Highways Major Projects Directorate. Infrastructure is the foundation upon which the economy is built. In RIP we represent National Highways interests in dealing with the safety, customer and operational impacts of major infrastructure projects delivered by other public and private sector developers of National significance.
