About the Role

JLA are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud System Administrator with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in managing and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring operational efficiency, security, and performance. As a Senior Cloud System Administrator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of our Azure environments, including managing resources, monitoring systems, and supporting cloud-based services.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Infrastructure Management:

  • Administer and maintain Azure resources, including virtual machines, storage accounts, and networking components.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of cloud-based systems to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Manage Azure Active Directory, including user and group management, role-based access control (RBAC), and identity federation.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest Azure technology developments and maintain a roadmap to migrate and adopt new Azure services that better meet the evolving needs of JLA.

System Monitoring & Troubleshooting:

  • Implement and manage monitoring solutions using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • Respond to and resolve system issues, including performance bottlenecks, outages, and security incidents.
  • Analyze and resolve infrastructure and application issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime.

Automation & Scripting:

  • Automate routine administrative tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or other scripting languages.
  • Develop and maintain scripts for system provisioning, configuration management, and patching.
  • Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like ARM templates or Bicep to automate deployments and updates.

Backup & Disaster Recovery:

  • Design, implement, and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans for critical Azure-based services.
  • Regularly test and validate backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Manage and maintain Azure Site Recovery and Azure Backup services.

Security & Compliance:

  • Implement and manage security measures such as firewalls, network security groups, and encryption.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices for data protection and security.
  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and patch management.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud infrastructure, system configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, security incidents, and capacity planning.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to optimize cloud resources and reduce costs.

Collaboration & Support:

  • Work closely with application developers, network engineers, and IT support teams to resolve issues and implement solutions.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior administrators and other team members.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical cloud systems.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in system administration, with at least 3 years focused on cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong experience in managing and supporting Azure services, including VMs, networking, storage, and security.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and implement effective solutions.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in PowerShell, Azure CLI, or other scripting languages for automation and administration tasks.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, including DNS, VPN, load balancing, firewall and WAF management.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery planning and implementation in a cloud environment.
  • Familiarity with Azure Security Center, Azure Policy, and other security and compliance tools.
  • Strong understanding and experience of key ITSM principles

Certifications:

One or more of the following certifications would be desirable:

  • ITSL Certification
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (preferred).
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate (preferred).

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
