Job Description

Elgin Energy is a full-service, utility scale, solar+storage developer bringing projects from origination through development. The company has a portfolio of projects in late-stage development totalling 6GW solar + 3GW storage across our three key markets of the UK, Australia, and Ireland.

In 2022, Elgin Energy launched an Asset Management business and a Trading and Optimisation business for Solar, Storage and Solar+Storage. Elgin’s ambition is to build on the success of its development business and become the Green Utility of the future with the in-house capabilities to build, own, operate and manage large scale renewables infrastructure.

This exciting role will put you at the commercial heart of the Ireland & UK business, making a real contribution from day one and will allow you contribute tangibly to the business aswell as acquiring new skills and experiences as Elgin Energy Trading grows and the markets we operate in evolve.

Elgin Energy is an entrepreneurial business with a strong culture, pipeline, and future growth trajectory. The company has expanded internationally over the last 12 years with a professional team of engineers, accountants, and lawyers located in its London, Dublin, and Sydney offices. Elgin has a 98% success rate through planning across all its markets.

The Role

In this role, you will work exclusively for the Trading and Optimisation Services business and report to the Settlements Lead of that business. You will also work in conjunction with the Elgin group Finance team, in particular the Financial Controller. You will manage and contribute to the development of the day-to-day finance operations of the trading business, as well as supporting the entry of new markets and administration of new products and services.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where you will have a high level of visibility within the organisation and work with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Performing the day-to-day management of the finance operations (confirmation, reconciliation, and settlement (including invoicing) of all trading activity and industry costs), including:
    • Preparation of financial and other key performance indicators for internal and external reporting on behalf of the Elgin Trading and Optimisation business
    • Post-trade analysis and strategy performance monitoring.
    • Day-to-day operational contact with Clearing Banks to ensure margin requirements are met
    • Assist in preparing cashflow forecasts and business plans for the trading business - based on known and estimated revenue and expenses
  • Perform necessary mark-to-market and settlement of bilateral and ensure forward trades are prepared and delivered accurately and in line with the contractual terms
  • Contribute to the development of the structure and processes supporting day-to-day management of the finance operations
  • Support the Commercial Team on strategic desk initiatives – new markets, products
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, to drive efficiency and improved performance (e.g., system enhancements and automation).
Support ad hoc commercial analysis and contribute to projects

Your profile

  • Knowledge of energy commodity trading activities, trade life cycle and trading systems
  • Experience of working within an Operations team performing invoicing & settlement processes
  • Proactive in identifying and driving improvements in processes, systems and controls
  • Numerate and highly organised with an excellent attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think independently and draw conclusions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of accounting and tax fundamentals

About Us

Elgin Energy is a full-service, utility scale, solar+storage platform bringing projects from origination through to energisation. Elgin is active across the project lifecycle from project origination through to construction management and operational asset management. The company has over 12GW of solar and storage projects across our three key markets of the UK, Australia, and Ireland.

As of 2022, Elgin Energy agreed to sell the UK’s largest solar PV transaction to date consisting of a portfolio of 12 projects with a combined capacity of 519MW of projects including 70MW of collocated energy storage capacity to Scottish Power Renewables (UK) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of global utility Iberdrola Group.

In 2021, Elgin Energy secured financing with Berenberg Green Energy Fund for the development of solar PV projects totalling 1.36GW in the UK and Ireland and also raised £25 million via Focus Capital Partners to fund its growth strategy across its core markets. In 2020, the company partnered, in separate transactions, with both Foresight Group and Metka-EGN in relation to two portfolios to deliver a total of 276MW of UK solar development projects and was successful with two Irish solar projects in Ireland’s first solar auction, RESS-1 – Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS). In addition to the above, Elgin Energy delivered 21 solar projects, totalling 230MW, before the UK Government’s Renewables Obligation (ROCs) scheme ended in 2017.

Elgin Energy works with long-term strategic partners to deliver projects to the energization and provides asset management services through their operational life. The company has expanded internationally over the last 14 years with a professional team of engineers, accountants, and lawyers located in its London, Dublin, and Sydney offices.
