We are looking for a highly creative Senior Design Manager and Design Manager to join our growing team at The Smarty Train. Can you design unique, dynamic and immersive learning experiences in virtual, face-to-face and digital formats? Do you want to design global learning journeys? Graduate programmes? Executive events? Pioneering training interventions? Then keep reading.

What would you do in these key roles? Level dependent, here is a snapshot:

For Design Manager:

  • Concept , plan and write detailed, minute-by-minute designs for:
  1. Immersive learning/training experiences
  2. 12-24 month development programmes
  3. Strategic communications and executive programmes
  • Use a thorough understanding of behavioural science, learning science, human-centred design, experience design, and/or social sciences
  • Develop an authoritative voice and evidence-based perspective on immersive learning design
  • Lead the design of low- to mid-complexity projects, and contribute heavily to the design of high complexity projects
  • Use exceptional writing and communication skills, grounded in scientific principles, to develop precise, high-impact sessions with clear and memorable messaging/learning
  • Collaborate closely and effectively with Delivery and Project Team members to ensure smooth continuity and flawless execution on all designs

For Senior Design Manager:

  • Develop and advise on immersive learning/training experiences and strategic communications
  • Lead and sponsor a wide range and variety of client projects and interdisciplinary project teams
  • Deliver and be accountable for a consistently exceptional quality of work, proactively mitigating risks and acting as an escalation point when needed
  • Use a thorough understanding of behavioural science, learning science, human-centred design, experience design, and/or social sciences
  • Line manage and coach junior team members on design and immersive excellence
  • Develop an authoritative voice and evidence-based perspective on immersive learning designs
  • Support the Leadership Team in growing and mentoring an interdisciplinary team in best practice across experience design, human-centred design, behavioural science, learning science, and/or social sciences
  • Use exceptional writing and communication skills, grounded in scientific principles, to shape high-impact sessions with clear and memorable messaging/learning for L&D and C-suite clients
  • Support in creating Thought Leadership and advising the Commercial Team on how to meet incoming opportunities with existing and new products/designs

  • demonstrable evidence of creative writing skills and experience, in both formal and non-academic copy
  • well in a dynamic and collaborative team environment
  • skilled at building strong client relationships and strategically growing client accounts
  • Understand how to use the outputs of user research, and account for them in the design of learning experiences
  • Think creatively and logically about how to persuade or convince your audience
