An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, permanent Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurse. The successful candidate will be based in the Diabetes Education Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and work within an established multidisciplinary team of Diabetologists/Endocrinologists, diabetes specialist nurses and dietitians to provide specialist diabetes care to patients attending outpatient departments, as well as supporting colleagues providing inpatient care. To provide an autonomous nursing service for patients with diabetes, using advanced clinical skills and knowledge of the speciality


To manage the nursing caseload for patients with diabetes, who have multiple and complex needs including complex Type 1 and 2 diabetes, diabetes technologies including continuous glucose monitoring and hybrid closed loop insulin pump therapy, ante-natal and transition within the outpatient diabetes service.


To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within diabetes.


To lead and innovate diabetes related nursing practice, both within the Trust and through local networks.


To contribute to the development of diabetes guidelines, protocols, and policies for the Trust


To actively contribute to and participate in the delivery of Trust-wide multi-disciplinary mandatory training and teaching.

Qualifications and Training
oCurrent NMC professional registration o3 years post registration experience oEvidence of recent continuing professional development oNon Medical Prescriber / willing to undertake


oAccredited training in insulin pump therapy oAccredited in structured diabetes education (e.g. oExtensive experience as a qualified nurse and working in the speciality of diabetes. oWorking to senior practitioner/expert nurse level as identified in the Integrated Career and Competency Framework for Adult Diabetes Nursing (Trend 5th Edition 2020). oExperience of initiating and supporting patients using continuous glucose monitoring and subcutaneous insulin pumps oEvidence of multi-disciplinary team working and able to work autonomously. oEvidence of developing and delivering teaching packages to complex patient groups and all levels of health care professionals. oAbility to demonstrate leadership skills oAbility to develop colleagues and effectively impart knowledge to others oAbility to prioritise and manage own workload oAbility to write reports and undertake presentations oUnderstanding of Evidence based practice and its application in practice oKnowledge and ability to undertake clinical audit and the setting of standard oAbility to demonstrate knowledge of current NHS initiatives and specific to the field of diabetes oKnowledge of the NMC Code oAbility to demonstrate a sound knowledge base and competence in clinical practice
