A substantive, full-time position has become available for a highly motivated Band 6 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist to join our dynamic team based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, the first Academic Health Science Centre in the UK.

This rotational post includes opportunities to develop skills and expertise in the upper and lower quadrants, complex patients, hand therapy and pelvic health.

You will be joining a large team of band 5, 6 and 7 therapists which includes a diverse mix of staff including rotational physiotherapists, specialist hand therapy occupational therapists, specialist pelvic health physiotherapists and therapy assistants and technicians. Additionally we have a well-established team of clinical specialists, orthopaedic and pain physiotherapy practitioners. At Imperial we have a strong links with research and are fortunate to have the lead clinical academic for therapies nested within the department

We have a novel way of developing staff, utilising an innovative new patient model within clinical teams, each led by our Clinical specialist practitioners. Complex new patients are assessed in a specific clinic with time allocated for reflection, integration of evidence based care, peer learning and so incorporating CPD into daily practice.

Feedback consistently supports that these clinics are very effective for both therapists and patients and are a highlight of the therapists' working week. The various teams will offer exposure to a variety of clinical presentations including upper- and lower limb conditions, spinal pain, rheumatological and persistent pain. As part of your rotations there will be opportunity to work within the hydrotherapy and balance disorder services. Rotating through these clinical disciplines will allow you to continue your development into a well-rounded, experienced clinician.

Main duties of the job

The musculoskeletal physiotherapy service provides a comprehensive range of services to patients with a musculoskeletal diagnosis, accepting referrals from Consultants and other AHPs that comply with local catchment criteria.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential


  • Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy
  • Demonstrate learning of personal effectiveness and first line leadership from experience and from both formal and informal CPD activity.
  • State registration with the Health Professions Council.
  • Able to demonstrate specialist learning from junior rotations, formal post-graduate level learning and informal CPD (both general and specific to clinical fields of speciality).

Desirable


  • Membership of CSP special interest groups relevant to rotations.

Experience

Essential


  • Experience of at least 2 years in a rotational physiotherapy post. A minimum of 4 months of that experience must be in musculoskeletal outpatients.
  • Previous experience in core physiotherapy specialities required- Orthopaedics/ Inpatient Rehabilitation /Respiratory.
  • Knowledge of current issues relating to speciality.
  • Previous experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of supervision of students/ physiotherapy assistants, with development of basic supervision skills.

Desirable


  • Previous Band 6 or equivalent experience in relevant post.
  • Knowledge of the workings of community-based physiotherapy services and intermediate care.

  • Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to this specialist area.
  • Able to use knowledge of a range of treatment approaches in the management of musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Ability to remain updated with professional practice and research and integrate this into daily patient management.

  • To make sound judgments and reliable decisions in a variety of demanding situations.
