Kilgraston School seeks to appoint a Junior Years Teacher. The successful candidate will work closely with the Deputy Head, Junior Years to ensure the provision of an excellent primary education. This will initially be a one-year contract.

Job Description: Junior Years Teacher

Reporting to: Junior Years Deputy Head

Salary Scale: As appropriate according to experience

All staff appointed to Kilgraston are expected to uphold the values of the school.

All teachers appointed to Kilgraston are expected to contribute fully to the co-curricular and pastoral life of the School. This may include evenings, Saturday and or Sunday duties. The richness of the school depends upon teachers who, for example, take pupils on trips to concerts and the theatre, volunteering in the community, university visits amongst many other events. The School expects its teachers to contribute whole-heartedly to school life by drawing upon their own interests and enthusiasms.

Main Objectives:
• Develop and implement the school curriculum and active learning.
• Ensure the effective delivery of teaching and learning.
• Develop learning strategies that take account of individual pupil needs.
• Work in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
• Monitor, track and evaluate subject performance through planning and
assessment and report the work of pupils.
• Participate in school planning, raising achievement and individual review.
• Undertake appropriate and agreed continuing professional development.
• Contribute towards good order and the wider needs of the school.

Person Specification:
• An experienced and outstanding teacher to act as the main class teacher for the allocated year group(s).
• Creative, passionate, and flexible about learning with high expectations of all pupils
• Able to motivate and develop a class of learners.
• In sympathy with Kilgraston’s Sacred Heart ethos
• Prepared to participate fully in school life.
Professional Standards:
• To act with complete confidentiality, knowing the privileged access to information about children that the post entails
• To be aware of the safeguarding requirements of a school and act accordingly
• To take responsibility for own professional development
• To understand responsibilities in relation to the school, including understanding the school’s mission statement, the Sacred Heart goals and contributing to them, and maintaining the school’s Catholic ethos
• To set a good example to children through personal presentation and conduct
• To use the outcomes of professional development to meet the objectives of the role.
• To participate in the school’s professional review programme
