Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degree in Science or a Related Discipline: A solid educational foundation in a scientific field is essential. Whether it’s biology, physics, chemistry, or earth sciences, your expertise will be the bedrock of your teaching.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This certification demonstrates your competence and readiness to lead a classroom. It’s typically included as part of a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course.
  • In-School Teaching Experience: Practical experience gained during your teacher training is invaluable. It’s where theory meets reality, and your classroom management skills take flight.
  • Fluent Level of Spoken and Written English: Effective communication is key. Your ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly and engage students is paramount.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and Deliver High-Quality Science Teaching:Prepare engaging lesson plans that cater to a range of levels and qualifications.Create an environment where pupils thrive, achieve excellent outcomes, and develop a genuine love for science.Assessment and Verification:Implement assessment procedures in line with policies and awarding bodies.Participate in internal and external verification and moderation processes.Maintain accurate course and learner records.Curriculum Development and Review:Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to shape and evaluate the curriculum.Stay abreast of national trends in education and science, adapting your teaching methods accordingly.Student Support and Discipline:Work closely with pastoral teams and parents/carers to support learners.Maintain consistent discipline in accordance with school policies.Professional Development and Training:Engage in staff training, sharing insights and best practices.Cover classes for absent colleagues when needed.Administrative Duties:Attend meetings and carry out administrative tasks related to courses.Provide statistical data and information as required.Promote equality and diversity:Champion equality of opportunity and challenge discrimination.Support marketing efforts both within and outside the school.
