Key purpose

  • The Test Lead will be responsible for verifying and validating technology and non-technology deliverables, ensuring they meet the specified requirements and quality standards. They collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, developers, project managers, and other testers, to achieve project goals.
  • They will provide Test Management and support for assigned projects, Covering all testing phase and post implementation support. Working closely with the Programme Director, the Test lead will deliver the agreed strategic testing processes and continually challenge them to ensure they are always effective and efficient. With significant skill and experience in one or more core testing methodologies, the Test Lead will bring experience and achievement focus to the delivery team on a day to day basis. They will adopt, lead and support a team-based approach to testing and software development, providing strong technical direction and support to the test team.
  • The Test Lead will be responsible for overseeing the QA capabilities required to deliver Products within an Agile and non-agile framework. They will coach and support Leads and flexible resources to deliver initiatives against a set of strategic quality criteria that focuses on high quality deliver and continuous improvement.
  • Working with the Product teams and other leads the Test lead will standardise the testing approach to drive quality of solutions and ensure customer requirements are met in full.

Key accountabilities

  • Delivery of a testing strategy agreed with the Test Manager including the creation and maintenance of a Test Strategy Document.
  • Adhere to test processes and procedures.
  • Ensuring test execution and defect tracking information is kept up to date by test team members. Reporting on team metrics and managing staff performance.
  • Act as a single point of contact for Testing on a specific project. Communicate progress reports to stakeholders and produce Test exit documents and submit for approval.
  • Responsible for the accurate implementation of test preparation and execution and liaison with Business Analysts, Master Developers and Architects to ensure analysis and design issues are resolved and analysis model and designs are kept up to date during implementation.
  • Suggests constructive solutions, and complies with standard policies and procedures. Proactively engages with the test team to share knowledge and mentor tester skills. Suggests improvements to testing processes and procedures.
  • Develop and coach a team of Leads to deliver a high performing service
  • Ensure each Product has a well-defined and understood Quality Acceptance strategy that focuses on high quality delivery.
  • Assure Quality throughout non-Agile and Agile SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) quality gates
  • Enables each product to deliver its QA responsibilities by establish the correct level of resourcing, tools, and appropriate strategies
  • Creates an environment of continuous improvement in the QA capabilities
  • Establish and maintain test automation through the product lifecycle
  • Responsible for the strategic use and recommendation of test management tools
  • Work with business teams to support business related testing
  • Collaborate with Product team to continuously improve the relevant delivery models
  • Define and manage a set of testing metrics to identify areas of improvement in both Software delivery and Quality Assurance practices.
  • Support the business in their testing phases and guide on regression testing scope.

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge, and qualifications

  • Proven leader in delivering QA capabilities that support non-Agile and Agile ways of working
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining a test automation service
  • In depth understanding of test frameworks working in MSP, Agile and PRINCE2
  • Experience in defining testing strategies that focus on quality and continuous improvement
  • Experience in functional and non-functional testing phases
  • Excellent knowledge around Agile ways of working
  • Strong QA leadership working with numerous Product Owners
  • Experience in developing QA resources through their careers.
  • Strong senior stakeholder management experience guiding the business and the testing scope and risk mitigation.

Responsibilities:

1. Requirement Analysis:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand project requirements, both functional and non-functional.
  • Assist in defining clear and testable acceptance criteria.

2. Test Planning:

  • Develop test plans and test strategies based on project objectives, scope, and resources.
  • Identify test objectives, scope, and entry/exit criteria.

3. Test Design:

· Create detailed test cases and test scripts that cover various scenarios, including positive and negative testing.

4. Test Execution:

  • Execute test cases and record results.
  • Report defects and issues, ensuring they are documented accurately and prioritize them for resolution.

5. Regression Testing:

· Conduct regression testing to ensure that new features or changes do not negatively impact existing functionality.

6. User Acceptance Testing (UAT):

· Collaborate with business stakeholders to plan and execute UAT, ensuring that the product aligns with business requirements.

7. Defect Management:

  • Manage the defect lifecycle, from identification to resolution.
  • Verify and validate defect fixes.

8. Test Documentation:

· Maintain comprehensive test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test results.

9. Communication:

  • Communicate test progress, results, and issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide input on quality-related matters.

10. Process Improvement:

· Identify opportunities for process improvements within the testing and quality assurance processes.
