Overall purpose of this role of Technical Policy Manager

The purpose of this role of Technical Policy Manager is to strengthen ICAEW's capacity in the Trust & Ethics team and support the delivery of ICAEW's strategy in the areas of Business Law, Economic Crime and Ethics.

The Manager will work closely with all members of the Trust & Ethics Team and support in preparing, presenting, and promoting high quality technical and practical information for members relating to the issue of Economic Crime, Business Law, and Ethics. The Manager will also play a key role in coordinating ICAEW's policy response in these areas and in supporting the work of the ICAEW committees affiliated to the Trust & Ethics team.

The role will contribute towards ICAEW's strategic theme of strengthening trust in ICAEW Chartered Accountants and the wider profession.

The postholder will be expected to contribute in a collaborative way to the delivery of ICAEW's Strategic Plan and the Reputation & Influence Department's objectives.

Technical Policy Manager Responsibilities include:

  • Lead on the delivery of key projects, including research, policy work and thought leadership with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Co-ordinate policy submissions, including collating and analysing feedback from a range of stakeholders, drafting summaries, and writing minutes.
  • With guidance from senior colleagues, promote and deliver high quality technical information to members for example, through presentations, social media, articles, and webinars as well as the preparation and presentation of material at member events.
  • Support the activities of the relevant ICAEW and CCAB committees, including organising and preparing appropriate papers, consulting members on technical and practical issues and preparing representations to external parties.
  • Support organisation of key events and initiatives when required, for example Global Ethics Day 2024, webinars, and podcasts.
  • Attend meetings and events with key government, regulator, and other stakeholder bodies, to discuss matters of common interest and to ensure that the interests of members of the profession and the public interest are recognised before or at an early stage of future developments.
  • Build strong partnerships internally within Reputation & Influence, and across ICAEW and externally with key stakeholders to ensure strong coordination internally and high-quality stakeholder relationship management.
  • Specific duties will vary from time to time in line with the business needs.

Technical Policy Manager Candidate Profile

Technical Policy Manager Requirements include:

  • Chartered accountant or equivalent professional qualification preferred. Educated to degree level, with relevant and direct experience in fields relating to one or more of Business Law, Economic Crime and Ethics.
  • Demonstrable work experience in a relevant environment.
  • Good understanding of one or more of the areas of Economic Crime, Ethics or Business Law (especially regulation).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to make complex, technical issues accessible and understood to a range of audiences.
  • Strong project management skills, with the proven ability to devise, develop, manage and deliver high quality content, thought leadership and policy work.
  • Excellent inter-personal, negotiating, communication and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to work across teams and departments to help deliver not only Reputation & Influence's objectives, but ICAEW's strategic and operational objectives.
