Locum Band 6 Community Paediatric Occupational Therapist working within Clinics and Community settings Working with children 0-19 in clinics, schools and at home, candidates need to be able to drive and have access to a car Some opportunity for flexible and virtual home working as part of the role Part time or full time considered Job Description: As a Locum Band 6 Community Paediatric Occupational Therapist, your role is to provide specialized occupational therapy services to children and young people within clinics and community settings. Working on a temporary or contract basis, you will fill in for absent or vacant positions, supporting children and their families in achieving developmental milestones, promoting independence, and enhancing their quality of life. Face-to-face consultations in clinic, home or school. Liaison with school staff including SENCo’s, teachers and LSA’s, contribution to EHCP assessment through report writing, parent & carer education, assessment and justification for specialist equipment such as seating Responsibilities: 1. Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments of children and young people referred to the community paediatric occupational therapy service. Utilize standardized assessments, clinical observations, and parent/caregiver interviews to identify areas of concern, developmental delays, and functional limitations. 2. Intervention Planning and Implementation: Collaborate with children, young people, their families, and the multidisciplinary team to develop individualized intervention plans based on assessment findings. Implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions to address fine motor skills, sensory processing, play skills, and activities of daily living. 3. Sensory Integration Therapy: Provide sensory integration therapy for children and young people with sensory processing difficulties. Design and implement sensory-based interventions to improve sensory modulation and enhance participation in daily activities. 4. Handwriting and Fine Motor Skills: Offer support and interventions to improve handwriting skills, fine motor coordination, and dexterity. Implement handwriting programs and fine motor exercises to promote functional independence in school-related tasks. 5. Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Training: Provide training and support to children and young people in developing independence in activities of daily living, such as dressing, grooming, and feeding. 6. Equipment and Assistive Technology: Assess the need for assistive devices and adaptive equipment to support children and young people in achieving their goals and increasing independence. Recommend and facilitate the provision of appropriate equipment. 7. Parent and Caregiver Education: Educate parents and caregivers on strategies to support their child's development and improve functional abilities at home and in the community. 8. School and Community Integration: Collaborate with schools, educators, and community organizations to facilitate the integration and participation of children and young people in various activities and settings. 9. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes measurement in compliance with legal and ethical standards. Ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information. 10. Continuous Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest research, advancements, and best practices in paediatric occupational therapy. Engage in professional development activities, such as attending relevant training, conferences, and workshops. Seek supervision and engage in reflective practice to ensure professional growth. Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body.
  • Significant experience working as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist in community and clinic settings.
  • Experience in assessment and treatment of children aged 0-18 with diverse conditions, including neurodevelopmental, neurological and neuromuscular conditions.
  • Knowledge of child development, sensory integration, and evidence-based paediatric occupational therapy interventions.
  • Strong clinical assessment and intervention skills.
  • Experience in working with children with a range of diagnoses and conditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and family-centered care skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work within a locum or temporary role.
  • Adherence to professional ethics, confidentiality, and data protection regulations
