Job overview

The postholder will assist and support the Finance Manager and Management Accounts team in the provision of an efficient and pro-active financial management service. The Assistant Management Accountant is an essential part of the finance team, helping to support and advise on all financial matters.

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities that the post holder will assist in are as follows:
  • Provide financial information and support to service managers and other budget holders in the financial management and control of expenditure at the direction of the Finance Business Partner or Deputy.
  • Supporting the preparation and provision of variance analysis on a monthly basis
  • Meeting with relevant budget holders as required
  • Assist in the maintenance of the system for the control of establishments, ensuring these are up-to-date and accurate, and that establishment and vacancy information is provided in accordance with key deadlines and performance measures
  • Support the Finance Business Partner and Deputy in the production of timely and accurate variance analysis reports and ensure variances are investigated thoroughly in order to provide the budget holder with comprehensive information to allow the budgetary position to be effectively managed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Provide financial information and support to service managers and other budget holders in the financial management and control of expenditure at the direction of the Finance Manager or Deputy.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the system for the control of establishments, ensuring these are up-to-date and accurate, and that establishment and vacancy information is provided in accordance with key deadlines and performance measures.

  • Reconcile control accounts on a monthly basis, and ensure that all outstanding items are cleared, with full explanations on reconciling differences.
  • Ensure all accounting records, systems and files are accurately maintained.
  • Attend meetings with budget holders to review financial information and ensure the budget holder understands and takes action on negative variances.
  • Contribute to the broadening of financial awareness across the Trust.
  • Ensure that the month end timetable is achieved and provide assistance to other teams if required.
  • Assist with the completion of the Trust's annual accounts and year-end processes.

Travelling to work

Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.

We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.

The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.

The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.

The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

DBS
