Job Purpose:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Estate Ecologist to join our team on a part-time flexible basis. As the Estate Ecologist, you will play a pivotal role in managing and conserving the biodiversity of our estate while engaging stakeholders and the public in environmental initiatives. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the preservation of natural habitats, support the estates natural environment strategy, and foster a deeper understanding of ecological principles.

Key deliverables

  • Conduct comprehensive surveys to document flora and fauna populations within the estate. Maintain accurate records of species diversity, distribution, and abundance.
  • Design and execute ecological surveys to assess the health and status of ecosystems within the estate. Analyse survey data to identify trends, threats, and conservation priorities.
  • Collaborate with project teams to integrate ecological considerations into land management, development, and restoration projects. Offer expert advice on best practices for habitat conservation and enhancement.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, local conservation groups and research organisations. Foster partnerships and coordinate collaborative efforts to achieve shared conservation goals.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to assist with fieldwork, data collection, and habitat restoration projects. Provide guidance and support to ensure volunteers contribute effectively to conservation efforts.
  • Organise and facilitate events, workshops, and guided tours to raise awareness about local biodiversity and ecological conservation. Develop engaging activities to inspire public interest and participation.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the estate on ecological matters. Deliver presentations, lectures, and media interviews to communicate key conservation messages and promote environmental stewardship.

Person Specification

Essential

Knowledge & Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field.

Proven experience in ecological research, monitoring, and conservation.

Strong knowledge of local flora, fauna, and ecosystems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.

Proficiency in data analysis and GIS software is desirable.

Prior experience in volunteer management and event coordination preferred.

Demonstrated passion for environmental sustainability and conservation advocacy.
