Electrical Cable Engineer (Forensic Test Focus)
Type: Permanent
Russell Taylor is working with a well-established Electrical Engineering company based on the Wirral who have a unique and exciting position available for an Electrical Cable Engineer (With a forensic focus) to join a forward-thinking company where welfare is at the forefront of priorities. You will be delivering forensic and failure investigations with a primary focus on LV / MV / HV cable systems. There will be both office-based projects and practical laboratory work.
Conduct forensic projects to Electrical Power Cable Systems (LV / MV / HV), determining the root cause of issues / failures; Provide expert opinions on Cabling Systems across the Forensics division.
• Build and develop relationships with customers within the cable industry; Analysis of cable compliance (BS / IEC Standards)
• Assessment of polymeric cable dielectrics (Voids, oxidations, inclusions etc...)
• Assessment of paper cable systems for signs of failure
• Failure investigations (Cable joints, cable terminations, HV sealing ends etc…)
• Role will include assisting the running of the laboratories (Training will be provided)
Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent
• Electrical experience from a relevant industry (Such as electrical utility or cable manufacturing)
• Take a practical approach to assessments and testing.
• An in-depth knowledge / understanding of cabling systems (Design and construction of power cables, joints etc : electrical field distributions; partial discharge and its significance in the degradation of cabling systems.)
• Knowledge of potential risks and mitigation factors.
• Some experience with high voltage testing would be desirable.
