Mechanical Fitter: To safely perform assembly activities in line with specified drawings and in accordance with Company standards, third-party governing standards and customer or client specifications. Reports to the Assembly Supervisor, within Production department. Description of the tasks Perform assembly activities safely, efficiently and in accordance with Company or Project specific standards. Read and interpret technical drawings and any completion documents to ensure activities comply with requirements. Measuring and marking out of structural steel Layout and assembly of structural steel into assemblies Assembly of structures using mechanical fasteners (Meccano, pipe racks, electrical cable tray support racks, etc.) Operation of oxyfuel cutting equipment and / or machines for plate cutting and / or edge preparation (if trained to do so) Use of hand and automated tools for burning processes Perform grinding or gouging by operating a grinder (5, 7, 9), cutting torch or other air operated grinding and cleaning tools. Work alongside welders, and other trades for the construction of fabricated assemblies. Fit cladding panels, stainless steel, duplex or carbon steel. Mark out and drill holes using various drilling machines (if trained to do so) Use of chain blocks, turfors and pull lifts to finalise positions of structural steel. May be required to use MEWPS on site. Knowledge: Apprenticeship or other recognised training period in Steel Fabrication / Assembly (NVQ / Apprenticeship) Extensive safety awareness (competence proven by minimum safety awareness training as set by the Company Able to read and interpret structural drawings Working at Height/Harness Equipment User, if necessary Use of Fall Arrest Suspension and rescue Equipment, if necessary Knowledge and understanding of the UK standards and requirements Tack test (on site test required prior to all project work) Manual Requirements May be required to work in confined spaces Able to safely work at height. Able to safely perform manual handling tasks, if required and in accordance with approved limits Required to wear full on-site PPE to perform work tasks including overalls, boots, glasses, hard hat, ear defenders and gloves. Able to wear additional site PPE, if required by risk assessment or task. Autonomy and complexity Take necessary measures where safety may be compromised, including escalation of queries to Supervisor, or management, if appropriate. Take necessary measures where quality may be compromised, including escalation of queries to Supervisor, QA / QC Inspection, or management, if appropriate Work according to agreed Company procedures. Work within requirements of safety procedures, risk assessments, lifting plans and any governing third-party standards. Ability to safely work to set deadlines. Responsibility Ensuring safety for own activities, with support of supervision and management. To complete last minute risk assessments (LMRA) prior to any new task to ensure the safety of self and colleagues. To maintain good housekeeping standards, in the work environment. To listen, take advice, and politely question, if necessary, when instructions or guidance is given. Communication Internally with colleagues and supervision, production leaders and management. With QA / QC Department on the progress of some assembly activities. Maintain positive communication channels with various departments and colleagues, to support cross department working. Ensure that any concerns are escalated in a timely manner. Pay Rates: £19.50 an hour for Dayshift and Backshift is hourly rate of £21.39. Please send your CV in the first instance.
