To take on the clinical, educational and leadership responsibilities to increase the effectiveness and safety of transfusion practice.

To promote compliance with transfusion safety and quality regulations in the Trust and in any other local hospitals with which the Trust has contracts to support transfusion practice.

Main duties of the job


  • To support, develop and educate all staff groups involved in front-line Transfusion Medicine in line with Department of Health and other regulating bodies' requirements.
  • To ensure that all Transfusions take place in accordance with Trust protocols and procedures.
  • To lead development and implement policies for the Hospital Transfusion Committee.
  • To lead development and implement local protocols with medical and nursing staff and other involved groups.
  • To facilitate the liaison between clinical users of blood and blood components and the blood transfusion laboratory.
  • To identify areas for nursing practice development.
  • To develop and coordinate dissemination of patient information in relation to transfusion and its alternatives.
  • To explore the use of and lead implementation of alternatives to allogeneic blood transfusion.
  • To coordinate the investigation and reporting of blood transfusion-related incidents.

Essential


  • At least five years post registration experience of blood & blood components and their use either in a clinical or laboratory setting.
  • Registered nurse or Biomedical Scientist
  • Teaching skills
  • Experience of clinical audit

Desirable


  • MSc in appropriate subject or equivalent experience
  • Currently working as a Specialist TP
  • Experience of writing clinical policy
  • Experience of incident investigation
  • Evidence of leadership responsibility
