With support and investment from the National Lottery Community Fund the Westfield Park Community Centre (WPCC)(SCIO) Board of Trustees is now recruiting for a Centre Manager to take forward WPCC’s engagement with thecommunity and local partners and support the development of a programme of events to meet the needs of the localcommunity.

The position is 28 hours per week, with a degree of flexibility and incorporating occasional evening and weekendwork. Salary is £30,000 per annum, pro rata. While the post is initially a fixed contract of 12 months it isanticipated future funding for the post will be secured.

The Centre Manager will oversee the day to day management and smooth running of WPCC, ensuring that WPCC is avibrant, welcoming and well managed facility that operates for the benefit of the local community and theresidents of the Falkirk District area. The successful candidate will have a key role in developingopportunities for income generation and successful partnerships, securing additional investment through grantfunding opportunities, helping to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of WPCC as a result.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate relevant management experience and have a successful track record ofdelivering quality outputs. Relevant experience of the third sector would be beneficial.

The successful applicant will be required to complete a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme check.

Boomerang Community Centre SCIO are looking to recruit a full time (37.5 hours) Centre Manager to oversee themanagement, development and financial oversight of the Centre.

We are looking for a motivated person with a minimum of 2 years’ experience of management of staff and volunteers ina community setting, to run our busy Community Centre.

This post is fixed until 31st March 2025 (continuation subject to funding).

Boomerang Community Centre is based in Stobswell area of Dundee and provides groups, activities, and support to allages. Our volunteers are central to the smooth running of the Centre.

Duncan Place Community Hub in Leith are recruiting new trustees with a broad range of skills and experience toenhance the charity’s governance, contribute to open discussion and oversee the implementation of strategy.Lived experience is valued as much as professional experience. Key areas for new trustees are communityinvolvement, finance, HR, marketing, legal, social impact, funding, property, and facilities management.

About Duncan Place Community Hub

Duncan Place Community Hub is a registered charity operating as a social enterprise. After being under threat ofdemolition, the building was saved by the local community, a charity was established, and funds were raised fora full refurbishment. Now a thriving and busy community centre in Leith, the hub has a growing programme ofgroups, classes and events. This brings folks together to share and learn, increase well-being, and reducesocial isolation. Through providing secure and affordable long-term tenancies, the hub is also home to severalother charities. Income from the long term leased space and from low cost activity fees means that the charityis financially healthy and has decent reserves. This innovative model means that the charity is able to usefunds raised to respond to the communities needs without the need to rely on short term funding.

Experience Required

Experienced trustees are welcome, but you don’t have to have been a trustee before. Skills and experience incommunity involvement, finance, HR, marketing, legal, social impact, funding, property, and facilitiesmanagement along with a willingness to share and advise are what we’re looking for.

Current board members and the manager of the charity will provide induction and ongoing support. Online training onthe role of a charity trustee in general is available.

Flexibility & Commitment

6 in-person evening meetings per year. These are 1.5-2hrs long. Occasional sub-group work may be required.

A minimum 12-month commitment is desirable.

Objectives

The Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS) owns the Museum of Scottish Railways and the Bo’ness and KinneilRailway and manages the core collection that has been Recognised as being of National Significance through theScottish Government’s Recognition Scheme. Most of the collection is owned by the Scottish Railway MuseumCollections Trust (SRMCT) and SRPS manages it on behalf of the owner. Visitors to the Bo’ness and KinneilRailway can see parts of the collection and other rolling stock in operation on the railway and visit the Museumof Scottish Railways.

The post holder will work with our collection to enhance continually its presentation, documentation, storage and useof a searchable online collections database. There will also be a requirement to work closely with the Board andwith a team of volunteers. The post will be supervised by an appropriate member of the Board of the SRPS.

Key Responsibilities

  • To represent the interests of the Museum of Scottish Railways within the SRPS, including by attending meetingsof the Board and other management committees.
  • To manage the staffing, maintenance and running of theMuseum.
  • To manage the delivery of the customer experience in visiting the Museum.
  • To lead andadvise the team who maintain the collection.
  • To ensure the Board is provided with informedrecommendations on acquisitions, loans and disposals.
  • To ensure the creation of a searchable collectiondatabase on our website.
  • To facilitate public access to the collection, including through management ofthe museum’s social media accounts and website.
  • To ensure compliance with the Museum AccreditationScheme and with Scottish Government’s Recognition guidelines.
  • To manage the interactions of the Museum,including interfacing with the Scottish Railway Museum Collections Trust, particularly with regard to ownershipof vehicles.
  • To represent the SRPS within national museum-supporting organisations.
  • To identifyopportunities to apply for grants which would enhance the Museum’s ability to operate or improve the customerexperience and then direct the production of grant applications.
  • To manage projects and contractorsinvolved in developing the Museum’s infrastructure as it expands
  • To develop library facilities on siteat the Museum
  • To proactively identify projects, and take forward ongoing projects

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant experience of working with a museum collection, and with staff and volunteers
  • Practicalexperience of running a successful team, and managing budgets
  • Flexible, confident approach with theability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Demonstrable capacity todelegate
  • Demonstrable capacity to commit to developing self and colleagues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High standard of written and spokenEnglish
  • Confident IT skills with experience of collections management systems
  • Familiarity withthe use of collections management databases
  • Applicants should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject
  • Interest in Scottish Railway History
  • Experience of working with Adlib
  • Experience of project management
  • Knowledge of preventative conservation
  • Knowledge of the Scottish Museum-supporting environment, including of grant giving organisations, and potential for raising funds

Provan Hall is an A listed medieval building located in Auchinlea Park, which sits at the heart of Easterhouse. Thebuilding has undergone a £2m restoration by Glasgow City Council that will safeguard this important heritageasset as a new hub for heritage learning and engagement, and a visitor gateway to the Seven Lochs WetlandPark.

Following its restoration, Provan Hall is managed and operated by the Provan Hall Community Management Trust. The aimof the Trust is to engage and inspire local people to value and take part in caring for their local heritage. Weaim to provide opportunities that connect local people and visitors to Provan Hall through inclusive andcreative means of heritage interpretation and activities.

Provan Hall Community Management Trust were awarded a grant by the National Lottery Community Awards for All fund toinitiate a youth programme at Provan Hall. Following on from the success of this project, we have been awarded agrant by The Graham Trust and The Robertson Trust. These grant enables us to focus a programme of engagementwith young people aged 5 – 24 across Easterhouse, Glasgow. The postholder will coordinate a programme ofactivities for young people to inspire enthusiasm and develop participation in our organisation. The post holderwill further develop our current connections with local youth groups and initiate new ones across the widerarea, furthering young people’s involvement in Provan Hall and our organisation. The role will includecoordinating with our project partners, developing youth forums, liaising with freelance professionals, staffand supervising volunteers. This is a maternity leave post initially covering 9 months of maternity leave butmay extend to 12 months.
