Altrincham Greater Manchester, United Kingdom Monkhouse Full time

Monkhouse Schoolwear Specialists was established in 1938 and is one of the country’s largest multi-channel retailers of school uniform. We aim to give every child the chance to shine, by providing products that give all children an equal opportunity to develop, perform and feel good about themselves. Here, service is everything and we are renowned for our ethically sourced, value-for-money product choice and quality.

We are part of a market-leading, national Group with an ambitious team of c.360 people c. 45 national locations and a combined turnover of c.£65m. We work with an extensive network of retail/e-tail/online partners and are acquisitive and growing at a significant pace, so working at Monkhouse is fun, stretching and rewarding.

Our plan to deliver a step change in customer proposition is supported by our internal commitment to empower colleagues, provide outstanding careers and make Monkhouse a truly great place to work. We want to grow our team with diverse, collaborative, enthusiastic and ambitious talent: - people who want be part of something special.
For this 6-month fixed term, full time position we are seeking applicants with demonstrable experience in a supply chain function, operating at a senior level.

Following a period of rapid growth and an ERP implementation, the existing highly capable management team for Supply Chain are seeking quality support in leading a series of standalone projects. Ideal candidates will have experience in data analysis; project and change management; process mapping and continuous improvement projects. While not essential, candidates with SQL and/or Power BI experience will be at an advantage, as will anyone with lived background in business acquisition and integration.

Your experience in retail, clothing or FMCG supply chain management will enable your success in representing the function at stakeholder meetings, supporting internal reporting (forexample project status updates, KPI updates, supporting the preparation of Executive Management pack content), and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure project success.

To be successful with Monkhouse you will be positive, courageous and collaborative. You’ll focus on making the right calls for customers, colleagues and partners alike.

You will be:

  • An exceptional communicator meaning you share information proactively; communicate vision, set goals, praise in public and provide helpful feedback privately, and enable the ongoing development of colleagues through mentoring, coaching, and supporting stretch assignments.
  • Willing and able to constructively feedback and challenge not only to your direct reports but also to your peers and those in senior positions. We have ambitious plans and colleagues here need to speak up and ask difficult questions in a way that conveys support for a common goal.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity. We’re growing and changing the way that we work, and that means that we don’t have all of the finer details of every piece of the puzzle worked out. In this role, you will face ambiguity regularly, but you’ll pull together with your peers to work through challenges, create plans, and implement them.

You will be able to clearly demonstrate significant experience in the following areas:

  • Being responsible for a minimum of £10m of buying in the retail industry. Schoolwear would be incredible, and clothing would be great, but these are advantages, not non-negotiables.
  • Values-based leadership through times of significant change and growth.
  • High-quality, detailed project management.
  • Collaborating with peers to problem solve and drive improvements

To apply you will need to:

  • Know how buying / supply chain/merchandising teams work in retail businesses, and be able to take best practices and adapt them in a changing environment.
  • Be an advanced MS Excel user to format and analyse large data sets (complex formulas, look-ups, data validation).
  • Be at ease with working autonomously (but always keeping key stakeholders in the loop).

What you can expect from us

  • Hybrid working.
  • Genuine commitment and investment in being an ethical and sustainable company doing our best for the planet, our people and the communities involved in our business.
  • We’re striving to create an unbeatable colleague experience. We have employee forums in areas such as mental well-being and DE&I.
  • A rapidly changing environment. It comes with its challenges, but it’s exciting, there are loads of varieties and endless opportunities for personal growth.
