Reporting into the Director of People & Culture (P&C), this role sits on the P&C leadership team and is responsible for the leadership of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) activity.
All members of our P&C leadership team are expected to lead with a strong customer service approach to all work, role modelling Ofcom’s values.
As the Head of ED&I at Ofcom, this role is key to ensuring all of what we do at Ofcom as an employer promotes and celebrates equality, diversity and inclusion.
We are very proud of our leading ED&I work at Ofcom, working in partnership with our senior management team, networks and colleagues in the delivery of a truly inclusive culture.
Your Key Responsibilities
Delivery of E,D&I strategy
- Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement a long-term E,D&I strategy.
- Be accountable for the design of activity, planning, budget controls and resources to ensure successful delivery of the strategy.
- Create and deliver E,D&I initiatives that go significantly beyond legal compliance, striving for best practice and leading E,D&I initiatives to enable Ofcom to be an employer of choice for all.
Understanding and Expertise
- Stay informed and educate others on relevant equality, diversity and inclusion legislation.
- Be an expert in our organisation.
Creating an Inclusive Environment
- Analyse and provide expert advice on improving people practices from an ED&I perspective.
- Assess organisational practices and processes through an ED&I lens, identifying systemic biases and driving actionable changes.
- Ensure that all groups have a voice within Ofcom.
- Implement positive action interventions to support underrepresented groups.
- Continue to embed our social model of disability.
Coaching and Upskilling
- Coach managers and employees on the importance of ED&I and its value to the organisation.
- Foster a culture of trust, enabling people to speak up and feel safe.
Data Analysis and Monitoring
- Working with the People Data Insights team to provide regular updates and reports, providing clear and understandable data, analysis and narrative.
- Strong support for, and collaborative working with our colleague networks, championing their work, providing guidance, expertise and mentorship.
- Seen as the expert across the organisation, leading challenge and debate at all levels for the better of colleagues.
- Being a source of advice, expertise and critical friend to senior managers and leadership.
Team leadership (ED&I team and wider P&C department)
- Leader of the ED&I team, providing pastoral care, wellbeing and career development opportunities.
- Represent the work of the team at P&C leadership team.
- Be a voice of ED&I at the P&C leadership team, ensuring ED&I is in all that we do, and integral to all P&C activity.
- Work collaboratively with all colleagues in P&C, delivering continuous service, high quality and a strong customer service approach.
