Job Type: Full-time, Temporary. Hybrid working.

Location: Union Street SE1 0LL

The Greater London Authority are looking for a Senior Children and Young People Participation Officer on an interim basis. You will provide policy leadership and advocate for children and young people’s participation in line with Mayoral priorities. This role involves managing a large team and influencing policy development to positively impact young Londoners.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Lead on policy development for children and young people’s participation, ensuring alignment with Mayoral priorities.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders, offering expertise on best practices in youth participation.
  • Drive advocacy efforts and manage projects to enhance young people’s involvement in the Mayor’s policies and programmes.
  • Develop and oversee participation and engagement campaigns, partnerships, and projects, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Manage budgets and seek funding opportunities to support the sustainability of participation programmes.
  • Lead and develop a team of sessional staff, ensuring high standards of participation and progression in employability skills.
  • Promote the initiatives arising from youth participation work locally and, where relevant, on a wider scale.
  • Communicate effectively with senior staff and stakeholders to support the GLA’s corporate objectives.
  • Provide high-quality support to Deputy Mayors and political advisors, including drafting responses and managing key meetings.
  • Represent the GLA at external events and respond to scrutiny from the London Assembly.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in leading youth engagement and managing teams.
  • Strong understanding of project development, management best practices, and stakeholder management.
  • Knowledge of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and experience working within this framework.
  • Familiarity with relevant policy and legislation related to education, children, and young people.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively.
