2484 – Network Engineer – Technical Authority

We have an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled Network Engineer – Technical Authority to join our team on a remote working basis for an initial period of 6 months . The role will require very occasional travel to a London or Central Scotland office. The successful candidate will act as the Technical Authority for a critical programme of connectivity initiatives within the UK and will focus on scoping and working with vendors to refresh WLAN/LAN infrastructure, implement WAN resilience, overcome telephony obsolescence and enhancing Wireless Connectivity. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Cisco hardware and a strong background in troubleshooting and resolving complex issues at a Level 3 capacity.

What you’ll do

  • Technical Authority: Serve as the primary technical authority for the design, implementation, and optimisation of WLAN/LAN, WAN, telephony and Plant Wireless Connectivity solutions
  • Network Infrastructure Refresh: Technically lead the efforts to refresh and upgrade existing WLAN/LAN infrastructure, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance
  • WAN Resilience: Design and implement solutions to enhance WAN resilience, ensuring reliable and secure connectivity across multiple sites
  • Plant Wireless Connectivity: Oversee the deployment and integration of wireless connectivity solutions within plant environments, tailored to meet specific operational requirements
  • Telephony: assist in the coordination of comprehensive audits of existing telephony systems including legacy PBX and VOIP. Interpret audit findings to provide recommendations for a new telephony solution that aligns business requirements
  • Level 3 Support: Provide expert-level troubleshooting and resolution of complex network issues, collaborating with internal teams and vendors as necessary
  • Technical Documentation: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including network designs, configurations, and operational procedures
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal IT teams, project managers, and external vendors to ensure the successful delivery of network projects
  • Best Practices: Ensure that all network solutions adhere to industry best practices, security standards, and compliance requirements

What to bring

  • Cisco Expertise: Extensive experience with Cisco network hardware (e.g., routers, switches, wireless controllers) and associated technologies
  • Level 3 Support: Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues at a Level 3 support level
  • Connectivity Solutions: Strong experience in designing and implementing WLAN/LAN, WAN, and wireless connectivity solutions
  • Energy Sector Experience: Experience working in the energy sector, particularly in environments with complex network requirements, is highly advantageous
  • Network Security: Familiarity with network security principles and best practices, including the implementation of secure network architectures
  • Documentation Skills: Proficient in creating and maintaining detailed technical documentation.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Proactive Problem Solver: Ability to anticipate potential issues and implement solutions proactively
  • Strong Communicator: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Team Player: Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Adaptable: Able to thrive in a dynamic environment with evolving project requirements and priorities
