Main duties of the job

The Midwifery sister will provide managerial support and direct line management for the allocated setting they are responsible for, while maintaining their own clinical skills and practice. The post holder will support the Midwifery Matron with the planning and modernising of service delivery which will initially be a key function of the role, while maintaining service provision within area of responsibility and contributing to the delivery of key performance outcomes.

Essential


  • Significant Experience at Band 6/7
  • Demonstrate evidence of clinical practice
  • Ability to manage and undertake all clinical roles within all clinical settings, including, waterbirth, perineal suturing and high risk intrapartum care with a focus on reducing C/S rate locally
  • Knowledge of current local and national midwifery agenda and priorities

Desirable


  • Experience of service change / change management or project management work
  • Experience of a specialist midwifery role

Skills

Essential


  • Ability to motivate and lead a clinical team
  • Works well under pressure
  • Able to work within a given resource and demonstrate imaginative and effective use of resources
  • Competent in the use of IT and computer skills, word processing and report writing

Desirable


  • Undertaken leadership programme, e.g. NHS
  • Leadership academy front line staff or in house rising stars programme.
  • Evidence of implementation of skills developed
  • Able to demonstrate significant personal involvement in change management
