School Caretaker – Barking & Dagenham Full Time – Short term contract of initially 1 month Start date ASAP We are looking for a caretaker for short term cover at one of our SEND schools based in East London starting ASAP for a period of a least 1 month. Caretakers work over a rota shift of early shift one week and late shift the next. Early shift hours are 6am – 1:30pm, Late shift hours are 10:30am – 6pm. Previous caretaking experience isn’t essential, but a good understanding of a school’s requirements would be an advantage. Responsibilities will include: Carrying out day-to-day maintenance and repairs; Making sure that the school grounds are well presented; Maintain fences/boundaries ensuring they are secure and safe; Checking the premises to guard against vandalism or break-ins; Porterage duties; Regular maintenance and safe use of gardening equipment and machinery; Gardening including maintaining lawns, planting and any outdoor areas. Interested applicants may have: An awareness of health and safety, security and hygiene issues; Excellent practical skills; A positive attitude to teamwork and the flexibility needed for working in a school environment; Self-motivation and the ability to work unsupervised; Experience of working with machinery and tools; Must have a DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one.
