Who we are.
TheKeats-Shelley Memorial Association(KSMA) was founded in 1903 to maintain and support the Keats-Shelley House, an 18th-century Palazzo, at 26 Piazza di Spagna, Rome, now a museum devoted to the English Romantic poets – John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley and their circle, such as Lord Bryon and Mary Shelley, especially those associated with Italy.
The Board
The Association is a UK-registered charity with a Board of Trustees. There are three Sub-Committees in the UK for The Keats-Shelley Prizes; Acquisitions; and Investments.
In Rome, the care and management of the House, the Museum and the collection are the responsibility of the Curator and Deputy Curator whose activities are overseen by the Rome Sub-Committee, which includes the British and American Ambassadors, for the time being.
The UK Board has 16 Trustees including the Chair, Sir Ivor Roberts. The Rome Sub-Committee has 16 Members. The Chair of the Rome Sub-Committee is an ex-officio member of the UK Board.
Who we are looking for.
The Hon Treasurer has an active and overall responsibility for the financial affairs of the Charity, including internal controls, accounting and financial records, budgeting, reimbursement of expenses, and charity risk management. It is the leading interface on financial advice, guidance, and reassurance to the Board of Trustees and is a Member of the Investment Sub-Committee.
The Hon Treasurer presents financial information to the UK quarterly Board of Trustee meetings, to the AGM in September, and to the international meeting held in Rome each October.
The position requires someone who has a clear passion for, and commitment to the Association and its objectives to preserve the memory and appreciation of the works of Keats and Shelley and their circle and to participate in fund-raising activities and support in seeking donors.
It is important to have a good understanding and experience in financial management and accounting, with strong business and financial acumen, and an understanding and acceptance of the legal, financial, and regulatory liabilities of a charity. Knowledge of Italian would be useful but not essential.
The role needs a collaborative team player who respects and values other points of view, can contribute effectively to discussion with an independent view, and participates with calmness and tact in an inclusive and outcome-focused way.
Time Commitment
The Hon Treasurer needs to give the necessary time to undertake the required duties, prepare for, and attend meetings, and support events and activities. The time commitment varies between 2-4 days per month over the year.
There are a minimum of 4 Board meetings per year held in London (or virtually), an AGM in September, and an international meeting in Rome each October requiring occasional travel to Rome.
